Why is maths unpopular?

In my opinion, Maths' unpopularity is in part due to the way we teach it in school: sometimes it's too abstract and without real-life problems' links. Also it's full of theoretical concepts that the students sometimes have to learn without a real reflection about them. In the end, I think that we could have better results by using different didactic practices, like cooperative learning, peer to peer learning, didactic laboratories.

Actually it was a Science project but there was Maths involved in it as they had to calculate the right amount of water, olive oil, caustic soda, using different measurement units. We used instruments such as scales, thermometers, graduated flasks.
