What laws have India established to address the problem of slavery?

According to India Spend, this country has some of the best anti-slavery laws in the world. The most effective law is the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act in 1976, which supports and benefits each person who comes out of slavery. This act provides people who come out of slavery with no assets money for food, clothes and shelter. Later on, a representative comes and talks to them to work out a payment plan so they can get on their feet (buy a piece of land, make a living, buy tools to qualify for a job, etc.) There are no laws yet, but more and more people are becoming aware of child labour for production purposes and boycotting companies that use or support it.The Indian Slavery Act is also important because in 1843, it abolished slavery as a whole. Since it was an act passed by British India, it got rid of many economic transactions associated with slavery in India.

“All forms of modern slavery continue to exist in India, including intergenerational bonded labor, forced child labor, commercial sexual exploitation, forced begging, forced recruitment into non-state armed groups and forced marriage," stated a reportor from The Wall Street Journal. (https://blogs.wsj.com/indiarealtime/2016/06/02/india-has-the-most-people-living-in-modern-slavery/). On estimate, 18 354 700 Indians are living in slavery, one of the most common types being bonded labour (also known as debt bondage), when people give their services as repayment of debt but the services and the duration of time is usually unidentified. Even though it is the most common, there are tons of people dealing with child labour, sexual exploitation, human trafficing, forced-marrage, and more. Many of this country's companies are involved in modern-slavery but the biggest are the agriculture and brick-making businesses.
What are the known figures that have impacted slavery in India?

The most common known figure to do with slavery in India was Ghandi. He found a way using non-violence against Great Britain for the freedom of India and to help oppressed people. In history, it is shown through the Smritis and other Hindu law books that slavery was a common practice in the vedic age of ancient India. That includes religious figures like Buddha, Mahmud of Ghazna, and Megasthenes. In the 4th Century, Megasthenes (a Greek historian and Indian ethnographer) explored India and observed the slavery which is what made him famous.(https://www.quora.com/What-is-the-History-of-Slavery-system-in-India). Also, the non-profit organization Free The Slaves has also had a huge impact and support on slavery in India. They started educating people on their rights, set up community vigilance committees, freedom plans and transitional schools. (https://www.freetheslaves.net/where-we-work/india/) Here are also some survivor stories of people who got out of slavery in India, https://www.freetheslaves.net/about-slavery/survivor-stories/.

India has the largest population of enslaved people in the world. As of today, more than 18 million people (1.4% of the population) are living in modern-day slavery. There are a variety of types such as bonded labour, human-trafficking, child labour and forced- marriage. Many figures such as Buddha, Mahmud of Ghazna, and Megasthenes play a role in the history of Indian slavery. The parliament of the United Kingdom was also important because they set an act in 1833 to abolish slavery throughout India. Today, the government has set certain laws regarding slavery in their country including The Indian Slavery Act, 1843 and The Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act, 1976 but have not nearly succeeded in the elimination of slavery as a whole.(https://blogs.wsj.com/indiarealtime/2016/06/02/india-has-the-most-people-living-in-modern-slavery/).
