The Boston Massacre was a major event in history that sparked the American Revolution five years later. The event happened on March 5, 1770, in the streets of Boston. The dispute was between the redcoats and the Bostonians. During this time, the Sons of liberty were responsible for leading the Bostonians to break apart from Great Britain. They did things like tarring and feathering tax collectors. Due to these extreme behaviors, the king of England sent soldiers to Boston to reinforce these laws. As a result, the Bostonians became very unhappy and started to rebel. The Bostonians started to gather in front of the Customs House (Where all the tax money was) and they starting insulting and threatening the British soldiers. Eventually, some bostonians even taunted the soldiers to fire. The crowd were armed with heavy clubs and snowballs.

Ebsco

Tea Act (1773)

The Tea Act was passed by parliament on May 10, 1773. The law granted the British East India Company Tea a monopoly on tea sales in the American colonies. In an effort to aid the financially troubled British East India Company sell 17,000,000 pounds of tea England had, the Tea Act arranged tariffs on the colonists so that the company could pay the Townshend duty and still undersell its competitors. Parliament did this because they wanted to reassert their right to levy taxes on the colonists. The tax on tea was already in effect from the 1767 Townshend Revenue Act. The colonists were very upset with Britain because of how they reinforced the tax. The Tea Act was the driving force or catalyst to the Boston Tea Party happening in December of 1773.

Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum
"Tea Act"

The Boston Tea Party was an event that corresponded to the Tea Act. Colonists were upset that they had to pay taxes on their own tea. Colonists saw this as a sign of taxation abuse. As a result, the colonists think that Britain is going to abuse their power and pass new laws through parliament. This event was organized by the Sons of Liberty. They were disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians in order to board the ships. While on the ships, they destroyed over 92,000 pounds of British Tea. Due to Tea being Britain's main source of income, they became very upset. In response, Britain sends troops to the colonies to monitor them. Therefore, this marks the creation of the Intolerable Acts of 1774.
