However he accepted aid from both China and the US (1955) to support his country. As time went on he became increasingly concerned with the US and their interests in the region, He thought an attempted assassination in 1958 was planned by the CIA, he was worried about US involvement in the murder and Diem and in 1964, ARVN forces attacked VC units in Eastern Cambodia. Due to these events he cut off all ties with the US but as time went on he quickly reestablished ties with the US and his concern grew by the actions of the VC>
