I am currently working on my Master’s degree in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling because as an educator for nearly 10 years, I now see the importance of helping outside of the classroom. In today’s age and even more so after surviving a global pandemic, there is a significant importance of helping and impacting the whole child in the school and the entire community. Counseling is just one of many ways of helping those who too often are not able to help themselves. Factors that push me in this field of counseling is continuing to watch student suffer in silence for one reason or another in and out the classroom for things and reason that they may not understand. Although I can see it as an educator, I am unable to stop my current instruction to solely focus on the problems that I constantly see at hand.

After taking the Multicultural Self-Assessment, the findings were of no surprise. The questions on the assessment were straight forward and to the point about race, skin completions, and internal thoughts and behavior. Though implicit in wording, the assessments seem to leave more than what was stated in the questions. So, even if the brain had already been trained for the original set of questions, the test taker had to be careful in choosing their answers. There was a surprise from these assessments as they did seemed to be culturally bias.
Importance of Multicultural Awareness and Cultural Competency

As a counselor-in-training, multicultural awareness and cultural competency are essential skills that you need to develop in order to effectively work with clients from diverse backgrounds. Multicultural awareness involves recognizing and respecting differences in race, ethnicity, culture, religion, gender, sexual orientation, ability, and other aspects of identity (Gray, G. M. (2018)). It involves understanding that people from different cultures may have different values, beliefs, communication styles, and approaches to problem-solving.

turally bias. What was learned, was that when taking assessments such as these, an induvial should be mindful of all things such as the questioning, the purpose of the assessment, and what the results can be utilized for.

The findings from my School Counselor Competency Assessment were interesting. I recognized that of all things, I plan, organizes, implements and evaluates a school counseling Creates a vision statement examining the professional standards of school counseling.
I was surprised to find that I could do better when it comes to programs in a school setting outside of counseling.

An Advocacy Program that I stand on is equal rights. Equal rights and equal treatment of people of all races, religions, and ethnicities is a fundamental human right that should be upheld and protected. It is important to promote diversity, inclusion, and respect for all individuals, regardless of their background or identity. Adequate funding for education is also critical to ensure that all students have access to quality education and resources. It is important for governments and educational institutions to prioritize funding for schools to provide equitable education opportunities for all students.
