         <description><![CDATA[<div>This reading was full of new information to me, I had never heard of these inventors, but I'm so glad that I have! Something that I would like to learn more about is why haven't these stories been taught more? In high school, I took a marine biology class, and even though they went over several significant researchers in the field, very few were women. The lack of representation of women in the STEM field needs to be addressed. It reminds me of the stereotype threat, in this context it means that if someone keeps hearing that men are better than women in STEM fields, they will start to feel and act in a way that corresponds to that. A part of these stories that made me feel wowed was during the story of Agnesi. Even though scholarly pursuits were not her main goal, she combined her passion for helping others with mathematics. This is very inspiring to me because many times many people separate social issues from math and (especially since I want to be a math teacher) I'd love to have them be combined. making subjects that many people aren't typically that excited for more accessible is a goal of mine, and Agnesi shows that it is possible.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Headstrong Merian, Agnesi, and V-P</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>One thing from this reading that I need more clarification on is the “witch of Agnesi” curve. I have never heard of this term and the text mentioned that it was used to describe a curve that turned in every direction. This stirred a lot of confusion in my head because it does not make logical sense for me, but I am sure with a more in depth knowledge and understanding of algebra I could potentially grasp the concept. Something that wowed me in the readings was how Villepreux-Power created the “power cage”. While it has the same concept of an aquarium I love how, like the book describes it, you can isolate a piece of an environment without actually removing it. I thought that was very innovative because she knew that there was a limited amount of information that could be obtained when you remove an organism from its environment. Furthermore, creating the power cage not only benefited Villepreux-Power and her work, but it also was a consideration of the organism itself and not to remove it from its home. I have a personal appreciation for the method because I don’t generally support aquariums because of the potential, but almost certain, emotional and physical turmoil it has on the animals within.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After reading the chapters about the women in Headstrong, I think that these women could be very inspiring to those who are interested in the STEM field, especially young girls who are looking to get into the STEM field and this could inspire them because there are very few women in the field to begin with. I think that this should be encouraged and talked about more in schools, I have never learned about any of these women until now and it it makes me wonder why? Something that wowed me was learning about how Jeanne Villepreaux-Power had a crater on Venus named after her. I never learned about her in my astronomy class but I think I should have because how many people have a crater named after them? Let alone, how many people who have a crater named after them are women? I think that their stories were very inspirational and young girls who are interested in the STEM field could look up to these ladies.&nbsp;<br>In The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, I was very impressed by William Kamkwamba and how at just 13 years old he learned to build a windmill for his village in order to save his village from drought and famine. I think that his story is inspiring and could also inspire others who are looking into the STEM field as well. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>After reading the chapters in Headstrong, it was all very new but interesting information to me. You don't hear about this stories which is disappointing because they are intriguing and cold be used in our educational classes, especially in STEM classes. I feel like all throughout education there is a lack of recognizing women, but especially in the STEM field. That is why it is surprising to society when a woman is studying STEM because it has been taught that it is mainly a mens fields. I feel like these women need to be recognized in classroom because it could be an inspiration to young girls.&nbsp; What I found really inspiring to myself was how hard these women fought for there research. They ran into many obstacles, like Villepreux-Power had to reinvent herself twice. If I combined these resources into my curriculum it could make the subject more exciting and interesting. I know for me, I'm not a fan of STEM but these 3 powerful women made me want to know more about the research. Learning about these resources gives me an idea and access to how I can make the subject feel more inviting instead of discouraging.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I have reflected agreatly just based on three women we have read this week, and their involvement in STEM material. One lady who really intrigued me was Maria Merian and her studies and research was done such a long time ago. It was really interesting that it mentioned naturalist weren’t paying attention to insects during the time she was studying them because of the unfamiliarity of them. I could see why creatures who could only be seen on foul things would be quite intimidating to the science community at the time. Also considering the fact that hygiene wasn’t that great back then, I would be hesitant to examine bugs as well. I also thought it was quite funny reading where many&nbsp; believed bugs came from before. Like how you could just grow them from a mix of ingredients and they would magically appear.&nbsp;<br>Marian set standards for the education of metamorphosis, which I know is nothing knew but I feel like she should be recognized for documenting the stages of insects which is important in early education life cycles.  <br>All the three women we read this week only greatly educated me but made me so invested in how many women were looked past because they were women.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
