Hearing testing when older than 2 years can assess for both conductive and sensori-neural hearing loss.  This testing is recommended when:

1.   speech delays are present or child has no speech

2.   child experiences recurrent ear infections

3.   parental concerns regarding hearing,

4.   failed school hearing screen,

5.   family history of hearing loss

Some syndromes and newborn-related events also require hearing screening. The Pediatrician will provide advice about these situations at your appointment.

RoxAnne is the parent of one child who has struggled with mental illness for over 17 years and is now an independent adult successfully living on their own. RoxAnne spent much of her time attending support groups, workshops, and courses related to mental health, coaching, and supporting other caregivers in search of finding a community that she could connect with on these challenges. She has spoken at various events about her experience, notably the Vancouver Mental Health Conference in 2014 and the Two-Eyed Seeing Conference in 2023. Now RoxAnne is sharing her expertise and creating an environment of peer support, education, and empowerment with other parents and caregivers through partnered organizations so that others can find a sense of belonging and experience the same sense of community that she found when it mattered most.

Circle of Security Parenting Program

This program is open to all parents and caregivers of young children. The Circle of Security-Parenting™ Program offers caregivers new ways to understand their child(ren)’s needs by recognizing and responding to their cues. It helps shift focus from trying to change undesirable behaviours with rewards and punishment, to seeing that these behaviours are a way of communicating a need from a child falling somewhere in the circle.

The trained COSP facilitators will help caregivers feel confident to encourage their children to go out and explore the world, while simultaneously recognizing when they may need more interaction and potentially intervention. The program does not tell caregivers how to parent but helps them to better understand cues and the importance of their role as an attachment figure, meaning a person of safety and comfort that a child has a strong relationship with.
