The AoE mainly focused on would be Intertextuality: Connecting Texts, exploring a diverse array of media, including graffiti, prose and film, analysing their satiric features and how they form a critical lense on society. <br><br>How the audience interacts and reacts to the text, particularly in relation to current global events, will be a strong discussion point. Communication and social skills will be improved through debates on controversial and topical societal and political issues that relate to the texts.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In regards to this unit, relating it to history comes naturally through the political influences and events which inspired Orwell to create the dystopia of Eurasia. <br><br>In terms of theoretical debates, it can lead to discussions on the significance of documenting history, acknowledging the bias of historical documents and how history can affect the future.<br><br>Task example:<br>In groups prepare a presentation to the class on an allocated totalitarian government, for example Stalin's Soviet Union, Hitler's Nazi Regime and Mussolini's Italy. Talk about the dictator, how the citizens are controlled and manipulated in comparison to 1984 and any other totalitarian traits.<br><br>Through this engagement, politics could also be considered a programme branched to within the unit.<br><br> Part of assessment criteria: <br><em>Evaluate sources as historical evidence, recognizing their value and limitations. <br><br></em>Related Field of Enquiry: <em>Politics, power and injustice<br></em>Learner profile: <em>Knowledgeable, Principled, Caring</em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Obviously Banksy is an ideal non-literary body of work to analyse the effects and forms of art, appreciating aesthetic techniques and the creation of large scale visuals. It facilitates debate on what students perceive as art, the legality issues of Banksy, commercialism of art and how form and use of materials can add to meaning. <br><br>Task Example:<br>Creating your own Banksy-esque design that comments on a global issue, paired with a critique of how the design elements create an image with political or social impact.<br><br>Studying propaganda in relation to 1984 could also be an interesting stance to mix the disciplines of art, history and possibly to an extent marketing. <br><br>Related Field of Enquiry: <em>Art, creativity and imagination<br></em>Learner profile: <em>Thinkers, Open-minded, Reflective</em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Through exploring the controversial issues portrayed within The Truman Show, students get an insight into studying film. From  aesthetic film techniques such as camera angles, directorial decisions, visual effects and setting, to the literature of the script, students can get a glimpse into analysing film. This is often very popular for EE essays, and often inspires students to look into film studies or media as a career.<br><br>Task example:<br>Creating a trailer for The Truman Show which hints at the global issues that can be explored, and follows the aesthetics of the film. <br><br>This could also relate to the discipline of drama and performing arts.<br><br>Learner profile: <em>Communicators, Inquirers</em></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br><strong>CAS</strong></div><ul><li><strong>Creativity</strong> – arts, and other experiences that involve creative thinking. Through studying film and graffiti, students may find a passion for more creative disciplines, or something related, such as film music, mural painting, acting or advertising.</li><li><strong>Activity</strong> – difficult to relate - would welcome any ideas.</li><li><strong>Service</strong> – an unpaid and voluntary exchange that has a learning benefit for the student. The rights, dignity and autonomy of all those involved are respected. Through studying a variety of global issues  and encouraging students to have an awareness of current global affairs, they will have undoubtedly have more ideas on how they would like to contribute to benefiting society.</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>EE<br></strong><br></div><ul><li><strong>Topic Idea</strong>s – This unit would inspire some more unusual and unique topics for their EE.</li><li><strong>Structure</strong> – With a focus on creating interesting and well-structured essays on the texts in this unit, it would be good practice and preparation for the EE essay.</li><li><strong>Research </strong>– Using reliable sources and learning how to cite these sources would be key to this unit, which would also be helpful when students start their EE.</li></ul><div><br><strong>TOK</strong><br><br></div><ul><li><strong>Essay</strong> – Finding a topic for the conceptual essay could take into account the identity and cultural aspects of the lit&amp;lang course. Students should have a better understanding of perspectives, bias, knowledge and communication.</li><li><strong>Presentation </strong>– Through the interactive and creative aspects of this unit, students will be more accustomed to talking infront of an audience, debating and coming up with original ideas that relate to real life situations.</li></ul><div><br></div>]]></description>
