Following the entry into force of the Single European Act (SEA), the title "Parliament of Europe" (which the Assembly has used since 1962) was adopted. This is pro because the SEA also extends the legislative powers of the EP by introducing cooperation and approval procedures.

The UEF is an NGO that campaigns for the establishment of a federal Europe. The union was founded in December 15, 1946 and consists of 20 constituent organizations across Europe.  As the name suggests, the union was built upon the idea of a single Europe with the idea that unity in diversity could prevent another world war and causing even more destruction and suffering in the European continent.

Months later, the treaty was narrowly ratified by France, one of the founding members of the EEC and the country of EEC "founding fathers" Robert Schuman and Jean Monnet, a sign that the political landscape in western Europe had changed. National polls were held in every candidate nation in 1994, when the EU started its first phase of enlargement. The planned annexation was defeated in Norway by voters. Election shocks in Scandinavia and the Maastricht Treaty's close call in France were indications of a rising tide of opposition to the EU, and political groups that supported this viewpoint rose to prominence (Ray, 2023). Despite the fact that the EEC (European Economic Community) had created the European Parliament, it was only given an advisory function and its members were not chosen by popular vote. By adding a veto over agreements with connected states and the admission of new members, the SEA increased the European Parliament's authority. The members of the parliament were likewise elected directly as a result. The European Council, an organization composed of the heads of state of all member nations, was also given increased power as a result of the SEA. The council may be viewed as one executive arm of government, and its head is also referred to as the "president of the EU." As a result, the SEA not only accomplished important institutional changes but also moved Europe closer to political unity. The SEA's timeline for the establishment of a unified European market in 1993, however, was the most significant and comprehensive component of its efforts (Madsen, 2013).
