Let's celebrate our resilience together because Medford, we made it through the 2020-21 school year! en-us 2021-05-25 20:43:26 UTC 2025-11-25 15:58:04 UTC hello@padlet.com Ducks jenniferfisher12 https://padlet.com/medfordschooldistrict/uawjpaj5kp6w67zq/wish/1563114386 The Application & Data Services team showed extreme resilience this year!   In a year where they had to implement Canvas LMS and a brand new Student Information System during a pandemic, they got it done!  Typically taking on only one of these projects at the beginning of the year, pandemic aside, would be an ambitious undertaking. During the year the team was without a direct supervisor for much of the time, and 2 of the programmers who started these implementations retired.  New members were added and the team took to the challenge of learning the software, continuing with implementation, and troubleshooting the issues that were bound to arise with projects this complex.  It took incredible fortitude to be able to persevere and overcome these obstacles.  I think of this team and they remind me of a quote.  

“Be like a duck. Calm on the surface, but always paddling like the dickens underneath.”

She has ridden the waves like a pro surfer (teacher). She inspires her fifth graders through art, hands on math, and science projects. In a year where the class had waves coming over their boards, she taught them that surfing is hard but can also be fun. Our Warrior Hawk surfers are grateful she picked up the Wilson surfboard. This year we worked tirelessly for equity and diversity. My Abe Lincoln Elementary students were part of Afro Scoutse, a group that helped and see generations of bipoc Oregonians doing so much!! in the renaming negro Ben mountain in Applegate. Ben Johnson was a black man living in Oregon before black people were allowed to settle here. He was a very successful blacksmith and he lived way up on the mountain above cantrall Buckley.
