I am proud to say I am the bookworm of the family. I remember spending every afternoon in my elementary school library waiting for my mom so we could go home. To pass the time I would crawl in a white clawfoot tub that was filled with pillows and read a Junie B. Jones book or The Magic Treehouse series. I always looked forward to gathering on the giant carpet for a read aloud. I remember the book that started it all... Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. I was hooked after that! I enjoyed that series so much that I made sure I included it in my classroom library. 

After 2nd grade, I had a handful of teachers that continued to grow my love and appreciation for reading. There was Ms. Gill in 5th grade, who introduced me to my first heart wrenching books such as Esperanza Rising, The Watsons Go to Birmingham and Bridge to Terabithia.

Think of Green Eggs and Ham... but make it more like me reading books. I would read in the car, in the store, on the beach, before bed, if I had any free time there would be a book in my hand. I loved a good novel written in verse. If I found something I really enjoyed then I would look into similar titles and authors. 

Once I discovered public libraries, there was really no stopping me. I would spend so much time browsing shelf after shelf for the perfect books and walk out with a bag full of adventures to be had. My mom would look at the 10+ books I checked out and ask if I was going to finish them all in time... as if she didn't know that we would have to be back for new ones in a week.

I love a good crime book. I am all for a thriller or a story of magical creatures like fairies, witches, and vampires. 

It makes me sad that at some point in my adult life I got busy with work and school and just life in general that I forgot what joy reading brought me.
