- Use of games to learn phrases or terms (ESL Simon Says)
- Include the L1 as much as you try to incorporate English 
- Allow students to talk to each other in class – although not something teachers are often keen on doing, practicing in a small group setting with their peers can help with their speaking skills 
-Use relatable and cultural experiences in lesson plans and activities 
- Strategies to cultivate comprehensible input: direct instruction -> joint construction -> coached construction -> monitoring 
- Get to know your students and be mindful when choosing any strategy. Its important to know what works for your students and what doesn’t. what makes their learning more enjoyable and what concepts are easier for them to understand

- Define advocacy, give examples. Students may not know what this means or be aware of its importance 
- Create a classroom environment where student voice is a regular asset and allow students to get comfortable with speaking up in class
- Allow room for small advocacy moments in class 
- Encourage students to ask questions – about everything 
- Encourage students to challenge what their ideal class is like, allow them to space and opportunity to change their own learning
