Both stories are built on the concept of forbidden love and it is the main conflict. In Pyramus and Thisbe it says, "They longed to marry, but their parents forbade." and in "Romeo and Juliet" it says, "Two unlucky children of these enemy families become lovers..." Both couples fall in love with their parents' enemy's kid

They get satisfaction from ignoring the barriers that set them apart (whether it be walls, a feud, or parents).  The walls in particular are significant by representing their separation that they overcome.  In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo climbs a wall that only love would allow him to do, and in "Pyramus and Thisbe," it states,"The hateful wall that separated them had become their means of reaching each other." (page 1)

Each of these are a source of fire the creates an image of how much they love each other. In "Pyramus and Thisbe"  it says, "Love, however, cannot be forbidden. The more that flame is covered up, the hotter it burns" (Ovid 1). They talk about their burning love for each other that can never be extinguished. Also in the story it says, "It was impossible that these two whose hearts were on fire should be kept apart." This shows how much they love each other because once a fire gets started and grows larger it is hard to contain. In Romeo and Juliet Romeo says, "O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!" They want to meet at the tomb not knowing that they will both eventually both be dead and buried. This also leads into them both killing themselves in the end.
 "Romeo and Juliet" is draw out much longer and in this one it is very much Friar Johns fault that they never met and that Romeo did not know that Juliet was not actually dead.
