         <description><![CDATA[<div>The term muckraker was used in the Progressive Era to characterize reform-minded American journalists who attacked established institutions and leaders as corrupt. They typically had large audiences in some popular magazines.<br>- Theodore Roosevelt popularized the term in a 14 April 1906 speech, in which he compared them to the Man in the Muck-rake in Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress, who remained so intent on raking the filth.</div>]]></description>
