Yesterday, General Commander of the Armed Forces, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, announced the start of battle to liberate the city of Mosul from the grip of ISIS. 

Senior sources confirmed that MPs would be asked to ratify any agreement between Britain and the other 27 member states at the end of the Brexit negotiations.

They will not have the power to amend the deal, however, and if parliament chose to veto the plan, Britain would still leave the EU — but without any new trading or co-operation arrangements in place.

Abuja (AFP) - Twenty-one of the over 200 missing Chibok schoolgirls freed after being held by Nigeria's Boko Haram Islamists for more than two years on Sunday spoke of their ordeal as they were reunited with their families.

During a Christian ceremony held for them in the capital Abuja, a schoolgirl named Gloria Dame said they had survived for 40 days without food and narrowly escaped death at least once.

"I was... (in) the woods when the plane dropped a bomb near me but I wasn't hurt," Dame told the congregation.

"We had no food for one month and 10 days but we did not die. We thank God," she said, speaking in the local Hausa language.

The ceremony was organised by Nigeria's security services which negotiated their release. Most of the kidnapped students were Christian but had been forcibly converted to Islam during captivity.

The Chibok girls were abducted in April 2014, drawing global attention to the Boko Haram insurgency engulfing the area when US First Lady Michelle Obama joined the #BringBackOurGirls online movement.

Of the 276 girls initially seized, scores escaped in the hours after the kidnapping, while another 19-year-old was found with her four-month-old baby earlier this year.

The ceremony was interrupted when the girls' relatives arrived and were reunited with them. Tears flowed as they hugged their children.

"We can all see the joy and emotions of the parents," Information Minister Lai Mohamed said.

He said talks with the Islamists would continue "until all the girls have been released".

"Very soon, another batch, bigger than this would be released," Mohammed said.

Garba Shehu, a spokesman for the Nigerian presidency, told AFP that "the Mamman Nur faction of the Boko Haram has indicated its willingness to negotiate the release of more Chibok girls in their custody.

Hurricanes are large, swirling storms. They produce winds of 119 kilometers per hour (74 mph) or higher. That's faster than a cheetah, the fastest animal on land. Winds from a hurricane can damage buildings and trees.

There can be more than one hurricane at a time. This is one reason hurricanes are named. Names make it easier to keep track of and talk about storms.

A storm is given a name if it becomes a tropical storm. That name stays with the storm if it goes on to become a hurricane. (Tropical disturbances and depressions don't have names.)

Data provided by Women on the Web, which offers abortion pills online, showed 5,650 women from both countries accessed the service from 2010 to 2015.

Most already have at least one child and a majority said taking the pills had been the right choice for them.

Laws in both countries ban or restrict access to abortion.

Abortion is legal in both countries if the mother's life it at risk. In Northern Ireland, it may also be permitted to preserve her physical or mental health.

Accessing pills which will terminate a pregnancy, or helping others to do so, can lead to a criminal prosecution in Northern Ireland, with the maximum sentence being life imprisonment.

Protesters are calling for a referendum to repeal the laws in the Republic. Later this month, Prime Minister Enda Kenny will hold a citizens' assembly to discuss whether a vote should take place to change abortion laws. 

"Northern Irish women have described in their own words the benefits of access to safe early medical abortion for their health, wellbeing, and autonomy. The current abortion law, which dates back to 1861, harms women by creating a climate of stigma, shame, and isolation."

However, Bernadette Smyth, of the pro-life group Precious Life, said: "Abortion is a criminal offence in Ireland and if women are accessing these dangerous pills online and have an adverse reaction that could endanger their life, who will take responsibility?

"To ensure the safety of women and babies these illegal online sites must be closed down.

"I want women with crisis pregnancies to be fully informed of the dangers of these pills and, more importantly, I want to provide help and support, because abortion is not the answer."

The FARC began its demobilization and disarmament process in late September after signing peace with the administration of President Juan Manuel Santos, but was stopped in its tracks by an October 2 referendum that rejected the deal with a razor-sharp margin.

Since then, Santos and the opposition forces that promoted the rejection have been negotiating changes to the deal that would allow it to be passed through congress without too much public resistance.

Meanwhile, the FARC leadership ordered its 6,600 guerrillas to assume defensive positions in order to prevent provocations by rival armed groups.

FARC leader Rodrigo Londoño, a.k.a. “Timochenko,” said last week the guerrillas were willing to “enrich” the deal, but rejected a substantial renegotiation on the deal to end 52 years of armed conflict.

But, in an interview with US television news network Univision, the guerrillas’ chief negotiator “Ivan Marquez” said “renegotiating the accord is complex but we can analyze it.”

Marquez warned, however, that “we can not allow that this is dilated because we run the risk the peace process ends badly.”

According to the guerrilla negotiator, the FARC’s peace process “is in limbo … and if this process dies on us, this limbo can convert into hell,” referring to past failed processes that led to some of the conflict’s bloodiest episodes.

“That’s why we need to save this peace process,” said Marquez who has been negotiating peace for more than five years.

The guerrilla negotiator praised the president for reinstating a bilateral ceasefire that formally ended the moment peace was signed, “which to us indicates that the deal is fully valid.”

If the government is able to rally the opposition behind the peace deal through compromises, these compromises will then be presented to the FARC, which would then have to agree on which points are up for negotiation and which points are not.

The opposition is led by former President Alvaro Uribe, who has rejected the peace talks since they became public in 2012 and whose referendum campaign is in legal trouble for intentionally disinforming the public to win the vote.
