We learned that the crust is made up of plates, moving at a rate of about 10 cm a year. Also, volcanoes are classified based on their height, shape, magma type and eruption style. An eruption is caused is by pressure of dissolved gas building up in the magma. When it becomes greater than the surface can take, it explodes. Lastly, a Pyroclastic flow is a super hot avalanche of rock and ash. It engulfs everything in its path in dense ash. Here is a diagram of a volcano of all the different types of things that happen in a volcano.

Also the word Lahar is when mud flows can be swift, silent, and lethal, engulfing homes many miles away from the volcano. We added this photo because it shows the ash cloud and the lava coming out of the volcano and we wrote about how the lava can travel up to 80 kilometers and how the ash cloud can travel up to 100 kilometers.

We also learned that lava flows to the boco which means mouth of the volcano. Our 3rd fact is magma is used to describe melted or molten rock inside of our planet. Our final fact is the world igneous means fire-formed used to explain volcanos. Our group chose this diagram because, we wanted a way to explain our volcano while also knowing where everything is and not a too complex way to explain it.

One scientist Joann Stock says "In Indonesia, Japan, and Russia there are always a few erupting volcanoes." Kilauea in Hawaii has been erupting since 1983. A volcano erupts when pressure builds up underground. There are about 1,500 active volcanoes around the world. Between 50 and 60 eruptions occur each year. Scientist know when the volcano will erupt they just don't know exactly when it will happen. "Some eruptions are more unpredictable than others." Stock says.
