Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is an effective and safe replacement for incubators in premature babies, first introduced by Rey and Martinez in 1978 in Bogota, Colombia.

The components of KMC are skin-to-skin contact, exclusive breastfeeding and early discharge. KMC also improves maternal bonding and decreases the risk of hospitalization and respiratory tract infections and hypothermia. It also helps improve sleep patterns and relieve colic.
