All these art pieces represent gods and goddesses. From the Egyptian time period their were tombs that had hieroglyphics with pharaohs who were thought to be godlike. Among many people gods are many things, or to some people gods may not exist, but to Egyptians were almighty and powerful. Tombs were important to these groups because they believed that life continued even after they died. In Egypt pharaohs ( high priest of every temple) Represented the gods on earth. It was said that he performed rituals  and built temple to honor the gods. The temples are for the tombs, which helps them ascend with the gods.
