         <description><![CDATA[<div>在地球上並不容易發生元素間的轉變，因此地球上的碳基本上是守恆的。任何使用到碳的物理及化學過程都必須從一處取得碳，並在過程後轉移到另一處。環境中碳所遵循的路徑稱為<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%A2%B3%E5%BE%AA%E7%92%B0">碳循環</a>。例如，植物從周圍環境中吸取<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%BA%8C%E6%B0%A7%E5%8C%96%E7%A2%B3">二氧化碳</a>，用以增加自身質量。動物可能會進食一部分植物體，並再以二氧化碳把碳還原到環境中。整個碳循環實際上複雜得多，比如一些二氧化碳會溶解在海洋中，動植物死亡後也會成為<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%9F%B3%E6%B2%B9">石油</a>或<a href="https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E7%85%A4">煤</a>，再經焚燒把碳還原到大氣中。</div>]]></description>
