When Mr. Hale arrived to Salem he was making sure everybody knew he was high ranked, and is very important to the village. 
"Nonsense! Mister, I have myself examined Tituba, Sarah Good, and numerous others that have confessed to dealing with the devil. They have confessed it. (Page 65) John Proctor said of course they admitted to it because if they didn't they would be hung. Mr. Hale is just trying to keep his reputation by playing devils advocate.

Tituba is going with the accusations that were made against her so she doesn't get hanged.  Tituba is also maintaining her reputation by being a mother figure towards the girls, " She enters as one does who can no longer bear to be barred from the sight of her beloved," (7). He is gaining respect in the parish and fears being known to have nieces who were practicing witchcraft. "Abigail, I have fought here three long years to bend these stiff-necked people to me, and now, just now when some good respect is rising for me in the parish, you compromise my very character" (11). We also see that Parris is concerned for his physical safety and living situation when talking to Thomas Putnam, who was seemingly already not too fond of Parris. "Thomas, Thomas, I pray you, leap not to witchcraft. I know that you--you least of all, Thomas, would ever wish so disastrous a charge laid upon me. We cannot leap too witchcraft. They will howl me out of Salem for such corruption in my house" (13).

Paris talked about her name being clean in the village. idk where to find it tho. She talked about her name is clean. by clean they mean she hasn't done anything wrong and she's a good person.

"Thomas Putnam was the eldest son of the richest man in the village" (13). Putnam thinks of himself as "superior of most of the people around him" (14). He rains down on those around him who do not let him get his way or disagree with him.

You think it's God's work you should never lose a child, nor grandchild either, but I bury all but one?" (26).  She is bound to reach her breaking point.

Proctor was maintaining a reputation by "Abby'll charge lechery on you..."(76). "I come to church or stay home...."(61) with these two quotes he's keeping his reputation by not letting people know the stuff he did with abby and he is trying to say he worships god but he doesn't go to church because he doesn't like the priest.

"Abby, we've got to tell. Wichery's a hangin' error like they done in Boston two year ago! We must tell the truth, Abby! You'll only be whipped for dancin', and the other things!" (Page 18). She was not involved in the dancing or the witchcraft but she is friends with the girls who did and she was out there watching them do this. Her conscience cannot take the feeling of being a liar. "I never done none of it, Abby. I only looked!"(Page 18)
