- contains the monumental ruins of a great city that was one of the most important cultural centres of the ancient world.

- Destruction of culture and homeland
- ISIS regulated the looting of ancient artefacts from Palmyra and the surrounding ancient ruins.
- Thing that upset archaeologist community so much was the excecution of Palmyra archaeologist  Khaled Asaad, who was beheaded by ISIL.
