Ariel was under the agreement that after loyally serving Prospero, Ariel would be granted his freedom and autonomy. Ariel is only bond to Prospero, not the enchanted Island. Prospero response in a fit of anger reminding Ariel that he is a subservient being and will receive more honor by dying doing his bidding than he may ever achieve on his own accord.
