According to Carbon Brief, “21 countries have pledged to reduce food loss waste in their national climate change.” If we get more countries to pledge we could possibly reduce the percentage of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Some examples of countries fighting climate change with food waste are; France banning shops from throwing away unsold food and instead requiring them to donate food. Also, China's national legislature passed an anti-food waste law in 2021 setting out rules for public entities and private food catering providers to improve sourcing. These are great examples of how we can reduce the number of greenhouse gasses before the percentage gets higher.

One solution you can do to help is to compost old food scraps. When you compost, 40% of that compost most of the time doesn’t get thrown out. Analyzing your eating habits also contributes to helping food waste. Making sure that you can buy things that you know you're going to eat. When you analyze what you eat, and what you don’t you can make it more flexible to know what foods you like or not. Eating specific quantities of certain foods can help you maintain your food and ensure it doesn’t get to waste. Lots of countries around the world have food waste issues. But fortunately, there are countries that have laws for food waste. Whenever more and more food gets wasted, so are the natural, and human resources that go into producing, processing, transporting, preparing, and storing the food get destroyed also. The result of food getting wasted into landfills is based on the country, region and type of food around you that is being transported or harvested by you. Some food could be sold at the grocery store, but it's not in season which makes it expensive. When that food is more expensive than the normal price, no one is going to buy it. That means that whatever food it was is going to be wasted and thrown out.

One cause of food waste affecting our environment is when we throw away more food which causes us to be wasting more energy, and fossil fuels that come from that waste. With that being said, waste also produces the equivalent amount of annual carbon dioxide emissions which causes our planet to warm up.
