It is very widely popular for recreational use in the U.S. despite it being illegal, with an estimate of 40.6 percent of Americans over 12 having used it at least once. The drug must be heated to get the desired effects, with the dried herb most widely being smoked, but hashish (the plant's concentrated resin) can also be added to foods.

Research has shown that memory-related structures in the brain appeared to shrink, possible signs of neurons decreasing, their brains looked like that of schizophrenics, sustained marijuana use can also slow reaction times and cause respiratory problems.

In the form of a pill called Marinol it's sometimes used to simulate appetite in chemo patients. It is hard to obtain legally with it being a Schedule 1 drug, but there are several research experiments going on as to what possible medical uses it could have.

Teens are at high risk of addiction with those who start using it before 18 being 4 to 7 times more likely to become addicted.

It widespread through the Middle East, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Hemp was used for clothing and rope as well as medicine to cure labor pains, menstrual cramps and headaches. Also used to soothe George Washington's toothaches. Then, Americans eventually changed their opinion and turned against marijuana. It was also linked to violent behavior and crime by Hearst's campaign in the 1930s. FIndings of this to be untrue and made people doubt all information about it and created a climate of illegal drug experimentation that's lasted to the 21st century. And here we are now.
