WHAT CAUSED?

SOLUTION:
Without credible information, emergency staff launched “worst case” scenario.

In 1990-2000s the focus of protective measures shifted from remediation to construction of protective systems for the complete isolation of contaminated areas along Pripyat River.

 The process of degradation of radionuclides was let to itself under so called “observed natural attenuation”

PROBLEM:
Pieces of Reactor #4 and the core exploded all over the area. The pieces were so radioactive that they could melt through metal and cement.

WHAT CAUSED?
The explosion of the #4 reactor and the core.

SOLUTION?
Men from the Soviet army  were sent to shovel up the ruins. Their workday was only 90 seconds, but they got paid 2500 $.  That kind of work had a huge impact on human health. If any of the men were there more than 90 seconds, they could get cancer or even die because of the high radioactivity levels.
