Although it is not clear yet how humans have managed to tame these creatures, but most theories suggest that the similar group dynamics of wolves and humans have led to this special connection or bond. Both humans and wolves mostly hunt in packs, and in both groups, there is usually an alpha human or wolf which leads the tribe. 
    The evolution of dogs closely follows the changing of man's needs. Throughout history, dogs have been utilized as partners for hunting and tracking, for working, and for sporting. The marketability of such business relies on the interaction with dogs themselves - the menus are just considered second-handedly by customers. I visited Barkin Blends in the Cubao area, as the one in Katipunan recently closed down. 
    1. There was such a small space for the large volume of dogs and people in the area. 
    2. The store hours had set regulations on dog interaction such as time limits and rules, however, the dogs seemed to be exhausted and temperamental after interacting with so many batches of people. The store hours were also lengthy (running from 11 am to 10pm). 
    3. The sanitation of the place was spot on, and the customers were asked to stash personal belongings and footwear in individual lockers. Slippers were provided and are required to be worn inside the area where the dogs were. 
    4. Most dogs are trained in terms of taking pictures and playing with customers. Dogs that were really exhausted or were showing signs of aggression were pulled out from the play pen area immediately. 
    5. A lot of dogs were sleeping in large groups or huddles which led me to conclude that they must have been cold. 
    6. There weren't any toys or beds for the dogs, they just laid down on the hardwood floors. For the customers, benches around the play pen were provided, but they could also sit on the floor. 
    7. Admission into the playpen required the customers to order at least one drink from the menu. The price was a little inflated but it was to cover the cost of interacting with the dogs. Customers' drinks can be placed on ledges around the playpens. Some customers leave their drinks on the ledges and do not throw them in the trash or forget them.

    1. For the grooming place in my province, I've noticed that there weren't any cages wherein the dogs may be put temporarily. The owners had to carry their dogs or let their dogs roam around the small vicinity. The shop is located beside a major national highway which could potentially be a risk.
    2. For the one at UPTC, there were cages for the dogs but the dogs seemed very uncomfortable. Food and drinks were also not given to the dogs despite the long waiting time and queue for grooming. Cages were right by the window of the shop so that passersby would stop and look at the dogs - which was an added stress to some dogs in the cages. 
    3. For both grooming salons, the place was quite unhygienic and littered with dog hair. There were also only one groomer and one assistant, which was why the queues were very long. 
    4. In both salons, grooming was forced and the dogs were noticeably uncomfortable because they were whimpering and flinching when the groomers handled them, especially during cutting. Some equipment seemed to be ordinary everyday materials like scissors which are not specialized for dog grooming. 
    5. Dog groomers were not wearing protective uniforms or even gloves. The area was not disinfected per dog, which may be a health issue.

UPTC recently launched a similar initiative, called BarkYard, in which they allotted a portion of their mall as a play pen and obstacle course for pet dogs. Other than that, I have yet to see an actual park for dogs. That is why most people just walk their dogs around their neighborhoods. Most people also do not pick up the excrement of their dogs - what most of them do is that they bring their dogs into an empty lot where they let their dogs defecate. Sidewalk width may also vary, and the presence of vehicles may compromise the safety of walking dogs.
