Perhaps you can remind them that they can edit their recordings when they are at home also. This may make them more conscious and for those who are still shy in recording their voice, they may try it out when they are not near their friends.

Really important for them to make their thinking visible. If not writing or drawing model, then by watching them do it in class by verbalising. Creating word problems allow students to think through carefully not just the phrasing but the numbers used must be reasonable and also the final answers.
