The visit to Le Grand Fond was very important to understand better the culture background and way of living of the local people, who had a different reality from ours. We all should be thankful...

Today's session was aimed at direct contact with green nature. It was very interesting to know "in loco" some species of plants with their medicinal characteristics and functions!! Interesting how we can get something good for our health from plants without having to resort to chemicals! Besides, we shared some less good situations in the history of slavery!!

Grand Fond - Humanity History
What a place this unique volcano crater! Behind of all green nature that composes it there's (another one) a dark history... We call it SLAVERY!!! Yes, I put it in caps. In Guadaloupe still are fresh the scars of this dark period. Grand Fond pushed me to the limit... It is the bottom (Grand Fond it means Huge Bottom) of the worst of human being. The picture that I attached to my reflection is a summary in images. The tree with spikes where the slaves (humans) who tried to escape, after being found by their greedy owners, were hard tied for long time to it. Just imagine...
The "bread fruit" was the only meal of the slaves (HumanS). Just imagine...
The third image is the crater, the bottom, the "Fond" where the slaves (HUMANS) run away of their miserable life. Just imagine...
Nowadays there are others slaves (HUMAN AGAIN): of work, of money, of health, of justice and so on. Just imagine...

Today... we went to visit the Grande Fonds Underground tropical forest! It was very pleasant to walk all that way and get to know the various species of trees and shrubs that exist in the Guadalupe forest. I learned about the experiences of ancestors and the wealth that this has for the survival of those who had no other "life".
Unfortunately, I also got to know the trees where slaves were punished.

Today was a contrast of colors and smells compared to the day before.
It was a live class where I could observe different species of plants that exist in this forest.
I had the privilege of being able to feel the aromas and flavors of some fruits and plants for the first time.
I couldn't end this visit in the best way...sitting in the bicentennial root of a mango grove listening to a beautiful story about the creation of all the fruit trees in the world.
It was a perfect day.

Today we were able to dive into the depth of the Grand Fond underground topical forest. It was another amazing adventure that allowed me to learn about the culture, history and nature of this magnificent island. Everything in the forest is seamlessly interconnected. I loved the lesson given by Edgar about the most varied plants that we found on the way through the forest. Now it's up to me, as a teacher, to instill in my students the responsibility and love for the preservation of all species of plants and animals in the ecosystems.

In nature, all organisms, whether animals, plants or bacteria, form bonds and establish relationships.
Being in symbiosis with it made me feel more alive and realize how everything fits perfectly.
Once again it was a privilege  to be in such a special place and learn a little more about the history of this beautiful island.
As a human being I felt small in the midst of so much grandeur.
Without a doubt, the best things in life are priceless.
