Hernando de Soto was a Spanish explorer and conquistador who went to explore and colonize what is now Florida. He went to colonize and explore because he wanted riches like gold and silver. This was a positive effect for him because he did find lots gold and silver when he went exploring in modern day south east United States and this made him wealthy and this was good because he used to be really poor with his family, but now he is wealthy which is great for him. Another reason he went to explore and colonize was to become famous and very well known inside of Spain by colonizing modern day Florida. This was a negative effect towards the Natives because he became famous because of how much land he colonized for Spain but he did this by killing lots of Natives in the process which was very bad for the Native population because the Natives were already dying at an alarming rate from diseases like smallpox and him killing more just to get more land and become famous in Spain killed even more Natives.

One effect from Hernando de soto colonization and exploring was he found the Mississippi. This was a Negative effect though because on his way of exploring the region of south eastern of what is now the United States he killed any natives that got in his way, and this was really bad because he killed tons of Natives it affected the native population very badly. Another effect from him exploring Another effect from him exploring, colonizing, was it gave Spain more money from him helping Spain kill the Inca empire which they stole all the money from them and it gave him and Spain lots of money and this was a positive effect because the money it gave Spain helped Spain's economy and people. The final effect was a positive effect for Spain and him because he was ordered by Spain's ruler at the time to conquer and colonize southeastern modern day United States and he did this successfully and this was a positive effect because it gave Spain more land and to find more gold and silvers to give them more money from the new lands.

¨I am not a die-hard capitalist. I do not view capitalism as a credo. Much more important to me are freedom, compassion for the poor, respect for the social contract, and equal opportunity. But for the moment, to achieve those goals, capitalism is the only game in town. It is the only system we know that provides us with the tools required to create massive surplus value¨ (Hernando de Soto).

This was significant because it showed how much Hernando wanted to explore just to help out Spain's economy and their people too and didnt want anybody in Spain to be poor.
Primary Source #2
¨The first native peoples they encountered upon landing in Florida had already made contact with the Spanish when Pánfilo de Narváez arrived there in the late 1520s. This experience, wrought with violent encounters, taught the natives to be apprehensive of Europeans¨ (Crellin, Brendan. “Contact with Native Americans.” Georgia Historical Society).
This was significant because this shows the Natives already didn't like Hernando when he showed up and were very cautious of him.
Difference in each point of view
These two points are different from eachother because this shows that Hernando just wanted some money for Spain and to make himself well known and for Spain to be more well known by conquering the Natives lands. This also shows that Hernando doing this was making the Natives hate and become very cautious of Hernando and his crew and this later led to many Natives dying from Hernando and his army.

Learning Target 4-Mastery- Cultural Blending

One example of cultural blending was the animals brought their from Hernando and his army from Spain that were horses, pigs, and war dogs. These gave the Natives a positive impact because the Native tribes learned quickly how to domestic the horses and pigs and make them their own so then when Hernando and his army would attack they would have a fighting chance even though Hernando's army had war dogs and they didn’t the horses and pigs helped them a lot in their battle. Another example of cultural blending this time from the natives to Hernando and his army was new knowledge of the lands of modern day Florida and the rest of southeast modern day United States this is a positive effect because it gave Spain more knowledge about America and it gave them a new colony in what is now Florida.

Learning Target 5- Mastery- Effects of Human Expansion

One effect human expansion had on the world was the native populations dying from countries colonizing because of diseases like smallpox and battles the Natives and Europeans fought against each other so the Europeans could get more land. This was a negative effect because when the Europeans started colonizing the Americas the native populations died from disease or from the Europeans killing them through conflict. Another impact from human expansion was more resources like gold, silver, and coal to the countries colonizing those lands. This was a positive effect because the resources made the countries more wealthy and able to produce more things with those resources. A final effect from human expansion was more land to those countries who colonized those lands and this was a positive effect because this meant there would be more land for their population to live and grow even more.
