When I planned this activity, I wanted the two groups of students in NY at AU and Spain to have an opportunity to share their ideas in a low-stakes environment with support. I made sure to organize provide a simple, direct 1-sentence prompt with choices. The items provide ideas and language at the level of vocabulary and sentence starters. Google translate is provided for the use of the students' full linguistic resources and a list of adjectives is also given to help expand the level of details in the description. These supports provide both guidance and opportunity for talk. The comments help students have a purpose for both listening and responding to peers, enhancing the dialogue. What do you think?

I also feel that Flipgrid maximizes the talking space in class as it is not bound by time periods or physical space. It is very important to give simple and direct prompts while providing linguistic supports as a choice.

This game also develops children's imagination and deductive reasoning in connection with foreign language acquisition. It should also be fun. Children sit in a circle and ask questions or simply
chat with a child that speaks another language. Their task is to detect the five foreign expressions,
one by one, which are used by the child instead of the normal expression in their working language. The children keep the discussion going until most of them detect all five expressions with suggestions of their meanings.

For each wave, we will think about what happened, how the people involved felt, and our own feelings-- this will be demonstrated in a word cloud. After talking about the four waves, the student will be allotted 15 minutes to research the history of Feminism in Spain. The student will have prior knowledge that the expectation of the research is to create a 10 minute oral presentation and a word cloud.

As we are both in a History Major, we figured that language played a huge part throughout time and it is very important to teach about this. However, we understand that not everyone finds History fascinating. To solve this issue, we decided to spark thinks up and make the experience fun through the use of Kahoot and Padlet. First the student can fill out the KWL chart we made so that we can get an idea of what they want to learn more about. When they are done with that, we made a full Kahoot for them to play and try to win!
When trying to narrow it down to a specific point in History, we felt colonialization and topics such as Columbus would be the best. Communication barriers began to form as New Lands were found and they learn different facts about Colonialization where they are from as well!
After participating in the Kahoot, we left room for the student to ask us any questions they may have that we can answer. We spent time researching this period again in order to answer the questions in which we are asked.

KWL Charts on Padlet really help organize knowledge in that it shows us directly what the students know already, what they want to learn, and what they have learned after the lesson. These help because by incorporating what they want to learn, they will stay more focused and interested in the topic at hand.
2. Kahoot is a great activity to do after the Chart is filled out. As History can be boring to some people, anything can be made fun when you add friendly competition to the mix. Students play Kahoot in order to win, not realizing they are learning knowledge at the same time.

Language has evolved throughout time, English has changed and the languages spoken in America have become more diverse overtime. It is the student's responsibility to do brief research on at least three different eras or times in the U.S. and they will put together a small presentation that includes the name of the era, the most common language spoken, the different languages spoken, and a little fun fact about the language used during that time, like a slang term used or something else.

For our project, we are using resources, such as Google Earth, maps, KWL charts, jamboard, youtube, and kahoot. With the use of google earth and maps we are able to have a visual representation and description of the landmark we are focusing on. With the KWL charts we can organize the information and see where students want to expand their knowledge. Youtube gives us an in depth experience of the landmark and helps us to learn more in auditory form. Lastly, Kahoot is fun! -Nicole, Dylan, and Angelica A

In this interactive graphic activity, students will draw a floor plan of their room and label furniture using multiple languages. Then on the side, they can give a brief description of how their room or the items make them feel and their significance. This project can be done in a mathematics class, combining geometric shapes while also using multiple languages to give a description. In doing this students will also have the opportunity to share about something personal to them such as their environment, language, and personal space. The students will also be practicing the use of multiple languages while discovering descriptive adjectives and expanding their vocabulary.

New York City and the Industrial Revolution (Katherine, Miguel and Thomas)

Since Thomas and Miguel are history majors and I am a biology major, we did an interdisciplinary activity. We created a presentation that explored how New York City became what it is today through the industrial revolution and some of the environmental consequences of that. We used many pictures to express certain words and phrases so that the students can visualize what we are talking about. We were able to ask the students about some of their previous thoughts about New York and also allow them to share how it is different from where they are from. At the end, we have a kahoot that works with the English vocabulary words in Spanish as a fun way to help the student learn the vocabular in their second language.

1. Learning with the student can make the student feel much more comfortable. We played the kahoot along with the student so they did not feel so alone. Miguel speaks both English and Spanish so there was some competition for the student. Katherine does not speak Spanish at all so getting some answers wrong and learning along with the student can make them feel more comfortable
2. Using pictures is a great tool. We paired a lot of "vocabulary" words with an image of what exactly we are talking about so the student can draw conclusions and associate the word with something they can recognize rather than just translating back and forth.

They were able practice drawing specific shapes and place them in specific places. While labeling their furniture, they also get to practice writing out words in different languages and then explaining how there are special things in their rooms and how they feel about them.
