What I find worrisome in regard to the proposition is that it has many downsides.
One downside is the unequal distribution of resources and opportunities, leading to disparities in the quality of education received by students in different communities.
Additionally, the pressure to perform on standardized tests and meet certain academic standards can lead to a narrow focus on memorization and test preparation, rather than a well-rounded education that includes creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on learning.
The cost of education, especially higher education, can also be a concern for many families. These factors can create a burden on both students and the education system as a whole.

The point of school is to provide students with an education that will help them with their future. We are taught mathematics, language art, science, and history for the purpose of getting a job. School nowadays is to make workers that will build our future. Also school is important for the growth of students in our society. It helps students become more social with other students. This doesn't only help the students now, but will help then in the rest of their lives. Being social and knowing how to communicate with others is very important for your everyday life. School is important for education, but it's also important for our personal lives.

The biggest thing that worries me is the technology aspect of education, especially when it comes to the younger students. I believe that students in elementary students shouldn't be having to do all their work on a computer. My sister is in 3rd grade, her reading/writing and science is all done through programs on the computer. Even though those programs are very education and can help, it's still very concerning on how much time she is spending on that screen. Kids aren't meant to be on the computer, they are meant to go outside and explore all that the world has to offer. Not to be stuck in a room Infront of a screen for hours.

Hi Elina,
I very much agree with your post regarding the amount of technological dependence schools have started to have. Elementary schools have started to use various online programs to teach students both in the school settings and at home for homework and it seems that technology is taking over the school system. Even though this dependency made sense during Covid times, as children didn't attend school in person, it has started to be part of the norm and now little children are on devices almost all the time, which is not healthy for them.

The purpose of schools within a democratic society is to educate adolescents and prepare them for the "real world". Schools teach students skills, both academic and social wise, that will prepare them for the future, such as their professional careers as well as fostering relationships with others. The purpose of school (not that this properly done in many cases) is to foster creativity and a sense of independent thinking that will enable people to thrive on their own. This in turn allows children to become productive members of society.

The aspect of this that worries me is that schools have begun to focus too much on academics and not enough on other important life skills. There is a high importance placed on doing extremely well in school and on tests or quizzes that are given. As a result, students are more focused on simply memorizing the material they are given rather than understanding it, and once they complete an exam, they forget about all the information they had learned. As a result, no one ends up learning anything. This great pressure on doing well can lead to immense emotional turmoil and stress for students in order to get into the highschool and colleges they desire, in turn leading to physical health problems (lack of sleep, high levels of stress, etc.) and a mental health crisis amongst younger generations.

Hello Adella,
I agree with your points immensely. Schools have been designed with the intention of fostering critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills as well as providing them with knowledge from countless subjects. However, this wasn't fully completed. Education has become inaccessible for many students across the country due to rising costs of universities and colleges. Additionally, there is a great disadvantage between schools regarding resources and opportunities due to lack of funding for unprivaleged communities or lower-performing schools.

Schools and teachers are already under funded and I am worried that that will continue to worsen, and that certain school districts won’t get the resources and money that they need in order to continue educating and helping students. Especially when it comes to students with disabilities, and different learning disorders, I worry that schools won’t be able to help them as much.

The major aspect that concerns me about school is that more events outside of school are affecting the school environment. In some cases, it makes it an unsafe environment for students. For instance, I think that now children have to worry more about school shootings. Then, parents bring their values and beliefs about other people and other values into the school system. This influences what students learn and what they are exposed to. I am also worried about budget cuts for teachers and resources. I do not like that schools are becoming more test-focused because students are only learning what they need to. They could learn so much more if they did not have to focus on what is needed for a state exam. I know that after taking a state exam, I forget what I learned unless it is interesting to me.
Then, if most students are bored, they start to go on their phones during class to keep their interest. I believe that most schools look like the image above because students are bored with test preparation material.

One aspect that excites me is that students are learning more things that they enjoy. For instance, some students may like art, so they could participate in that. I also like that students are exposed to new things. In some states, there are different events that celebrate different cultures, which I think is important. Also, the main aspect that excites me is how some states are considering and currently have laws in place that allow students to seek mental health treatment. I think that this is very important because school can become very stressful (like in the picture above), and it could be more stressful for some students based on what they are dealing with outside of school.

The point of school is to provide skills and information needed for adulthood. For instance, a student may not exactly remember what they learned in history class. However, they remember the research they had to do and the notes they had to take. Then, they could take that into adulthood. I also think that schools provide students with different experiences through teachers, clubs, outside class activities, etc. I think that could spark something in the student that they want to explore more. I also think that students could be exposed to other students and learn more about different cultures and values.

Especially at elementary level, being tested at such young ages can be challenging. Another thing that worries me about school is how most of it is now online. For younger students, being on a laptop for 4 plus hours a day to do school isn't healthy. Also not every student has easy access to a laptop or iPad so I think it is unfair to have assignments primarily online.

There are SO MANY things about/within the education system that worry me. The main thing that's always concerned me is how stressful being a 'good student' can be. in some cases, people are unable to learn in the way that teachers chose to share and teach their material. This can lead to bad grades, making student's feel 'dumb' or unworthy of success in their lives. Another example can be a student who is able to learn and grasp the information being taught to them, but maybe they aren't a good test taker, leading their grades to go down, and lead to the same situation of the last example where they feel lesser than their peers. Not to mention the pressure of constantly getting good grades on standardized tests with poorly formatted questions in order to get into colleges, when we live in a society that bases intelligence and success with schooling. And let's definitely not forget the toxic environment of schools that is formed with bullying and intolerance, etc... Many things can be fixed!!

I 100% agree. I remember last semester, one of my professors who also works with young kids was telling us how there's children in 2nd and 3rd grade who don't know how to use scissors, or glue two things together, and not to mention the communication issues it has caused! I also love your point about how not everyone has access to a computer, tablet, or even Wi-Fi. It's really refreshing how you're able to identify that what seems like a perfect' solution can be difficult if not impossible for some people. I also talked about how school can be such a stressful environment for children, with all the work they are expected to do not only in school, but outside of it as well. I love your responses!!

Learning and getting an education should be something that is enjoyable and exciting, however, with all of the work and stress that gets put on students the positive aspects get taken away. At this point, many people rush through their school work to get it done, rather than taking the time to actually learn from what they are doing. Another aspect that worries me is how big of a role technology plays in modern-day education. I feel that technology and the internet are almost beginning to take priority over what teachers have to offer and teach, and this is concerning. Everything is becoming online or digital, rather than the traditional way of learning in a classroom.

I think that grades and tests put so much unnecessary stress on students, and I don't feel that they are always an accurate representation of someone's intelligence. Students should never need to feel that they need to have perfect grades to be considered "smart". Everyone is intelligent in their own way, and measuring someone's intelligence solely based on how well they do in their academics is not right! People have so much more to offer than an A on an exam or a 4.0 average. People are more than just their grades and intelligence is more than just school!

School provides us with many different learning opportunities. Not only are basic subjects such as English, history, and math taught, but foreign languages, the arts and sciences are also instructed. In addition, school teaches students life skills such as socialization, critical thinking, decision making, and responsibility.

Hey Aleksandra-You bring up a good point. As a future teacher, school budgets and not enough funding is a worry of mine as well. It is so important for schools to have the resources and finances available in order for students to succeed. Especially, students with learning disabilities! With budget cuts on the rise, many teachers buy their own supplies because they can't get it from the district. A few years ago, my high school stopped printing articles and homework assignments for students because it was too expensive. We were responsible for printing it ourselves! I also worry about extracurricular activities such as sports and clubs being cut. Keeping kids busy with something other than schoolwork is important for their mental health.

The point of school is to teach you things you need to know. School has many aspects that can help us in our overall life. Can teach us what we are good at since school is divided in different subject we might grow to love science or math or any other subjects. It will show us our strength and weakness. When struggling we learn how to work harder. School helps grow our strength. We learn how to work and train our brains. Also we learn how to socialize by making friends with our peers and creating long friendship. Might find someone you have a lot in common with. A friend that can help you out with your work and even do group work with you. School helps us build character.

What worries me is children having a negative relationship with school, academically and socially. Many factors can contribute to this. Between the workload, feeling confident in the classroom or not, feeling pressured, bullied, etc. I personally want kids to come to school everyday excited to learn, see their friends and to enjoy themselves. School should be a safe space for every child to want to come to. But in many cases children don't enjoy coming because of the issues they experience in the classroom and outside. I feel schools are aware of the issues students struggle with but don’t do anything to change or help the situations. The only way to stop a cycle of issues from happening is to fix or edit ways of action.

What worries me is not all schools are equal, depending where the school is depends on how many opportunities and resources are available to the school and the students. Some families pay a lot of money to send their kids to private school, this can put a lot of stress on students to succeed in the expensive school they go to. Even if a student goes to a public school they can still be stressed out about the amount of work they are graded on. In many school systems there are standardized test that count for a big portion of their overall grade, this is stressful for students, especially for students who are not good test takers. A lot of stress is put on students causing school to not feel like a good experience to them.

The point of schools is to educate students in an environment where they can feel safe and nurtured in order for them to prosper. Schools are the starting point for a child's education journey. From the elementary school level students are forming the basic building blocks of learning that they will need to carry on throughout life. In schools there are so many different subjects students are exposed to. They are exposed to math, science, history, English, world language and more. These main subjects help students learn about the world around them and promote their critical thinking skills, hands-on development, communication skills and more. Additionally, in schools children are exposed to extra-curricular activities such as gym, art, music, and dance. These extra-curriculars provide students with exposure to possible new interests. This promotes students development and curiosity. Schools are an important place for students to feel comfortable in order for them to learn about the world around them, as well as learn more about themselves!

It also worries me that kids from the younger generation rely on technology a lot of the time to get their work done.

There are certain things I have noticed me that worry me about the future of schools and educators. Since the pandemic I have noticed that many teachers are experiencing burn out, which has led into the current teacher shortage. This concerns me because I do not want to lose my passion for teaching. I know there are tough moments in this field, but I could not imagine myself not being motivated to not teach anymore. Another thing that worries me is the time factors that play into being a teacher. I know from family members that teaching requires a lot of extra hours behind the scenes, including making lesson plans and grading. I worry sometimes if I would be able to get everything done on time, and still have enough time for myself to unwind and manage. A third thing I am worried about is budget cuts and unfair pay for teachers. Teachers work so hard and work so much behind the scenes to make everything run smoothly, however, due to budget cuts schools do not have enough funding, as well as not being able to pay the staff as well as they should be paid. I think budget cuts make teaching a lot more difficult because people on the outside dont see all the effort, time, and money that goes into running a smooth classroom environment.

You are taught information that will help you throughout your school years, but you are also taught information that helps you in your life outside of school. Some teachers are there to listen to you and give you advice, whether it is something that is stressing you out or relationships with friends and family. I had a teacher one year who would always be there to listen and give me advice when I needed it. School also gives you the opportunity to make new friends and create memories.

Additionally, schools are needed to teach children common knowledge and basic functions. This necessary to help children both in their personal lives and professional lives in the future. Thus, children are not only learning important lessons pertaining to math, science, social studies, etc. but skills like critical thinking, ways to expand ideas, problem solving, etc. Also, children get to show some of their creativity in school in classes such as art and music or if they like sports they can release some energy in classes such as gym. Schools should be a place where children feel welcome and excited to learn and be able to prepare for their futures.

We would never expect for things to turn out the way they have. Students should not be scared to go to school. They should not be so focused on every little detail as they walk through the halls. They should be able to live their lives and have fun because they're children.

The biggest part of school that worries me is how stressful it can be. I have first-hand experience that the education system can be immensely stressful and put a ton of pressure onto a student. This stress can be extremely overwhelming and cause a large strain on one's mental health. Additionally, this forces students to "cram" before big exams in hope of doing well and thus simply memorizing information and not truly absorbing what they learned. Then students forget this information and don't remember what they previously learned. Students then get into a bad habit of simply focusing on doing well on tests so they are above academically but not focusing on if they truly understand the information or if they are in a good mental state.

I also like how athletics are connected in education and are promoted as good ways to stay in shape and healthy, and relive stress which clearing your mind.

What worries me about school is many things. For starters, school especially at higher levels becomes very stressful, time consuming and overwhelming. Many classes workloads never end, you feel like you have no time ever for yourself, for your hobbies, or to work outside of school for money. Many professors are also not understanding in the slightest, if you miss a class, hand in homework late or any other circumstances. Furthermore, I am also worried about how much technology has taken over education, and everything is online, including homework, classes and tests. I feel like we lost the in person touch/connection. And that scares me.

When it comes to modern day education and schools, I am worried that schools are allowing students to become too reliant on technology. It's important for students to learn how to become social, and not all students learn the same way and may be better off when learning in the traditional way. Im also worried that schools are underfunded, and the job of educators and schools counselors are undermined. Not only that but the stigma around schools in todays society, surrounding safety within schools. We have seen many cases when it comes to gun violence, and school is no longer a safe haven for all children. It has become a place of terror, and fear for many. Schools are also not providing students with some necessary life skills, and instead focus on academic knowledge that prepare us for college, but not our careers or future lives.

School should be successful in offering good learning resources that will allow students to truly understand what they are learning about. Parents decide where to send their children however a school district decides how to run the schools. A well meaning education to me is when someone has critical thinking skills and common knowledge on basic aspects.

Bullying is one of the worst issues, as some students' mental health are ruined by mean words or actions that bullies do. School has also become more frightening to attend due to upcoming gun violence. Students should not have to go to school worrying whether they will leave alive or not. School is a mini society on its own, with group activities and classrooms with many people. School also prepares students to face real world problems with the subjects they learn about in school. For example, when I first learned about the pythagorean theorem I thought it was just some math law that wouldn't apply to any of my non-academic interests but it is the first thing that pops into my head now when thinking about the fastest way to get somewhere. This application of something learned in an "abstract" situation just further emphasizes how everything cam be connected.

The main thing that worries me the most when referring to academic environments is curriculum. Specifically the importance placed upon grades. It seems like our whole lives we've associated good grades with being smart and in turn "worthy". Of course this is to be expected within the confines of school but what about the students who are demoralized? Not just by numbers on paper, but by parents, guardians and teachers that are quick to punish if a student does not meet a standardized expectation. This connects to the institution of schools where now business, such as tuition and programs, take priority over learning.

Schools also give us experience of what exactly the real world is like as well as guiding us into our future and helping us figure out who exactly we want to be in life. The teachers also look out for their students and their needs for them to be successful when learning new things which is very important when they are just starting their education.

There a great teachers that also support you in everything and form a strong bond as you grow. Schools are also a great opportunity to find your identity and who you would like to have as close friends for the next few years of your life.

What worries me about school and education in general is how some students are treated. I've seen many students get treated badly and unjustly by teachers which completely ruins education for the student. There are several aspects about schools that negatively affect the student such as the amount of workload given. Many students are stressed and dealing with their personal issues, and have to stay on top of their school work adding more stress and can burn them out or even lead to having problems with their mental health. There are several more issues with schools that worry me such as bullying and racism not only from students but also from the adults.

Not only does school give people basic knowledge on certain subjects and aspects of life, it can enable those to really understand and figure out philosophies and concepts of this world. School not only provides the young basic knowledge, it is the foundation for them to branch off and learn about various things that are present in life, whether that’s law, the human body, education, etc. School not only gives the youth a foundation of knowledge for their upcoming futures, the school atmosphere provides children some sort of structure and discipline. Having to be up and ready to attend school by a certain time 5 times a day, while having assignments that need to be fulfilled by a certain deadline; all provides children a particular form of structure and discipline without knowing.

Schools can give children great education, therefore preparing them for more advanced forms of learning and occupations. For a good portion of my life in particular, I was taught sugarcoated parts of history versus the truth. It is important for students to learn the truth about history and etc. so they aren’t ignorant to the world and societies they live in.

In my opinion, its not just acedemically where the child excells but often times, school is where a child finds themself. In the generic school system, a child is placed randomly amongst a wide variety of students who come from all different types of homes and backgrounds. Children in school have the opportunity to expose themselves to things they would never be able to at home.

The purpose of schools within a democratic society is to promote creativity and effective ways of understanding general education courses. If we, as teachers, can get our students to the state standards with the most effective methods for each student, we have done our job well. Although students deserve to learn at their own pace, superintendents and state requirements may hinder or even make the situation worse. There may be multiple requirements based on a student's age and grade, but students should be a top priority, not standards. Each child learns differently, and that should be recognized more frequently within the classroom.

Not everyone realizes the importance of socialization within schools, and the ability to find what truly excites a student. The exposure to different cultures and ways of life is what school does so beautifully; bringing different sides of the community together to understand one another. This helps shape students into open-minded, curious, and accepting adults. without a conducive and supportive environment, a student can be hindered or even disregarded which is what we, as educators, strive to prevent.

Schools teach students many things like learning to be independent, becoming an adult, learning new skills, learning academics and socially. These are all great benefits that schools provide in our society today. Being a part of a school is like being a part of a community where everyone thinks, learns and helps each other. There are many outcomes when it comes to learning in a school like English, math, social studies, science, gym, music, and other classes you can take that you are interested in. They also have sports, clubs, and activities after school that can help a student become more active in your school.

The point of school is to get ready for the outside world initially. Each step of schooling is completely different and provides different educational factors. For example, elementary school is where we learn basic human prompts. Colors, simple numbers. It is also where we learn how to be human—interacting with our classmates, developing into different individuals, and learning how to be our own person. In middle and high school, people learn what they like and dislike about people, maybe career choices, and how they want to grow up and start to figure out the life they want to live. It teaches us that we can do whatever we want if we set our minds to it. College and beyond are highly specific. Professors and people perceive that we are our own selves, and no one is holding anyone else's hands. You are free to either excel or fall. This is probably the hardest point because you learn there is no one else to help you but yourself and you do what you want with that information.

What excites me about school is it helps prepare me for my future life, and helps me get a job in the real world. I believe if you work hard in school you gain more opportunities such as good jobs, a good scholarship, and good knowledge to know stuff in life. School is also exciting because you get to meet new peers and friends along the way. - Julia

What worries me is the inequality and unfairness between students. I worry that in school people can get unequal opportunities because of their race or gender. I also worry about students getting made fun of because of their appearance, what they wear, etc. -Julia
