Today we covered social isolation and how detrimental it can be to our health, yet everyone has felt this way before. Explain a time where you felt isolated, or if you isolated someone. This can be anonymous, point being to showcase how isolation is very common within our society and even peers.

The only thing worse than suffering a serious illness is suffering it alone. This can be related to hearing a friend talk about something they went through in the past and they didn’t have someone to talk to while it was going on. Hearing of their isolation and loneliness during a time they were struggle makes an individual more inclined to reach out and help others.

The pandemic made it hard for people to go out and see each other or meet new people. I was enrolled in digital school all of seventh grade, and I definitely missed a lot of the memories that happened while my current friends were at school. This also made it so field trips were impossible and we ended up missing the last of them. It was lonely not being able to have many friends and not being able to travel. Although it did prevent more people from getting sick.

Isolation is a very common occurrence among everyone in many different ways. For example, people may feel isolated when they go to a party or gathering for a friend, but that friend’s friends are there as well and may often not know them, so they isolate themselves from their friend’s other friends. This is a very common thing to happen to people and isolation is often unavoidable for everyone at some point in their lives.

I hated doing online school because I cannot focus at my own home because I associate my home as a place to relax and chill. I'm sure that my anxiety was fueled by COVID because before, my anxiety was not worse than now.

I remember this one time that the person, who shall not be named, was trying to find their way into our friend group. But no one liked them and really didn’t want anything to do with them. So, we did what we thought would be best and isolate the person. It worked and they left us alone, but looking back on it we made them feel as though they weren’t good enough for us. The loneliness they felt could’ve caused depression or something worse all because we wouldn’t give them a chance. And I would experience this same feeling a few years later. The friend group that I considered my closes friends would go and hangout without me and wouldn’t say anything about them hanging after the fact. I would find out through other people and hear they had a grand old time without me. And hearing that they don’t need me there to have fun hurt my heart a bit.

I’ve been isolated before as a bookish nerd sort of kid which gave me a good vocabulary and helped me to get very high grades my whole life. These things led to me being seen as the ‘smart kid’ because most people tend to not see me for who I am rather than my grades and my ease of completing school. I have found that this increased my sense of isolation because it puts a distance between me and other people, because I can’t relate to them with not understanding topics, and I get scorned when trying to help. I get ridiculed when I score lower than a 95, too, which only serves to further the isolation, even when I have people I joke with and talk to, there is always a sense of a gap between myself and everyone else.

When my friends once all went out together to go eat and have fun, I wasn’t allowed to go with because my mom wouldn’t let me go because of safety reasons. They were a friend group I would always go out with and get invited to places with so when it was my first time not going out with them I felt isolated especially after they posted it on their stories or something funny would happen during that time and I wouldn’t have known about it because I wasn’t there so there were new inside jokes that I wasn’t apart of and that made me feel even more isolated than I already was.

Thinking about living alone and not having anyone is such a huge fear of mine.

Kind of happened my freshman year.

Can't give too much detail because it's sensitive, but I practically lost two of my favorite people while they stood right beside me.

It was the worst time of my life.

But it really helped me to grow, so I wouldn't change anything

I think the best way to get over isolation is to change.

Don't be afraid of change, and you can move on to a brighter future.

People are stuck in isolation and depression, and they don't know how to get out. Its hard, you feel like you're stuck. You feel alone. You aren't.

When you're in the worst times of your life, if you want to get better, you have to reach out.

Parents

Friends

Pets

Music

All of these things can have a better and more positive affect on you.

Reach out to parents, ask for more time with them, have movie nights, go out for dinner or ask to be taught how to make something.

Friends. Walk away from any that make you FEEL bad. The reality of a relationship is how the person makes you feel, not how you feel about them. Read that again pls 😐. Make new friends. Reach out to people you may have misunderstood or misjudged. They could be great people! Talk about how you feel with your good friends, they could help!

Pets! Hug your pets, if you don't have any, then make a goal of hugging your parents at least once every day.

Music! CHANGE IT.

Completely change your music style.

Music has a huge impact on brain function, and music from a depressing time can make you feel worse. Listen to happy music!! I recommend Good Kid, or some rock songs. Old music helped me the best when I was trying to get out of my isolation. It reset my music taste and now it's all upbeat bangers.

You can do it!

in the beginning of 8th grade my parents decided to move states. What I didn’t expect is that we would essentially go on a year long road trip around the US staying in Airbnbs to look for where we wanted to live. Although this experience was fun and I got to experience new places and travel it was also very lonely. My old friends eventually lost touch after the first few weeks, and i did online school. so the only people I was able to talk to for an entire year was my little sister and the realtors.

In 6th grade we were forced to stay at home for the rest of the school year, and even after that we were not really able to go anywhere due to the virus. I was not able to talk to anyone and didn’t make many friends, which made it harder in 7th grade since I knew almost nobody. It was worse when my family got sick or I got sick because the meant I couldn’t even see the people I loved with as much.
