Imagine your mother, carrying you for 9 months—each day a test of strength and endurance. Through her, you were given the most precious gift of life. She didn’t just carry you physically; she carried hope for the future, love through the hardships, and strength in the face of every challenge. You owe it to her, and to yourself, to appreciate that.

Now, think about the mosos. These laborers in Central America during the 1970s carried heavy bags of coffee, corn, and firewood that weighed far more than their own bodies. Imagine them—struggling through the heat, working from sunrise to sunset, with their backs bent under the weight of what they carried. They were paid a mere $3 colones for a day’s work, and on days when they had to haul those heavy sacks all the way to the trucks, they made barely $5—a meager sum that couldn’t even cover the most basic needs.

But still, they did it. Day after day. The weight of the world on their shoulders, yet they rose and carried it anyway. The mosos knew that life is hard. They knew the weight of struggle. But they also understood something else: the reward of pushing through, of continuing despite the odds, was worth it.

Today, as you reflect on your own life, ask yourself this: What burdens do you carry? What struggles are weighing you down? Life is difficult. It will push you to your limits, just like it did with the mosos. But there is a power in perseverance, in moving forward, even when it seems impossible. The reward is in your strength to overcome, to rise above the difficulties, and to keep going.

You are here today, stronger than you know, with a legacy of resilience running through you. Life may not always feel fair, and it may be overwhelming, but you have the strength to carry whatever comes your way. Like the mosos, you may not always see the reward immediately, but trust that it’s there. Your resilience, your ability to endure, will shape a future that is beyond your imagining.

So reflect on this: What can you carry today? What challenge can you face, knowing that you are capable, that you are worthy of everything that lies ahead? Life is tough, but you are tougher.
