His mother died a few days after and his brother left when he was still a child. He was mainly brought up by his father who was a clock maker. One day his father got into a quarrel and fearing imprisonment, so he fled and left his only son to his Uncle. Rousseau and his cousin went to study at a village called Bosey. He met a woman named Louis de Waren and the two fell in love. This one was a major hit and he won an Academy for it. His second book was The Discourse on the Origin of Inequality. It didn't do as well as the first, but was still widely read and insured his place as an intellectual figure. He then wrote his work on philosophy of education, The Emile, and the political philosophy, Social Contract. This works caused him to flee to Switzerland and he continued to justify his life.
