         <description><![CDATA[<div>A child's communication is considered delayed when they are noticeably behind their peers in their speech/language skills.  <br><br><strong>Speech Disorders</strong><br>You may see problems with an interruptions in the flow or rhythm of speech, such as a stutter.  There could also be problems with the way that sounds are formed, or the pitch, volume, or quality of the voice.  Speech sounds can also be difficult.  For example, the word "see" may be spoken when the word "ski" was meant to be said.  The "l" and "r" sounds might also be tricky to say.  <br><br><strong>Language Disorders<br></strong>This is an impairment in the ability to understand and/or use words in context, both verbally and non-verbally.  You might see the improper use of words and their meanings, the inability to express ideas clearly, inappropriate grammatical patterns, reduced vocabulary, or the inability to follow directions.  Children may also hear or see a word but not be able to understand what it means.  They might also have difficulty getting others to understand what they are trying to communicate.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Apraxia of speech is a disorder where someone has trouble saying what they want to say correctly and consistently.  It's not due to weakness of the speech muscles, and the severity can range from mild to severe.  <br><br>There are two main types: Acquired and Childhood.<br><br><strong>Acquired Apraxia of Speech </strong>can affect any age, but often occurs in adults.  It's caused by damage to the parts of the brain that are involved in speaking.  It can result from a stroke, head injury, tumor, or other illness that affects the brain.<br><br><strong>Childhood Apraxia of Speech</strong> is present at birth.  The causes are not well understood, but children with this disorder often have a familial history of communication disorders or learning disabilities.  <br><br><a href="https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/apraxia-speech"><em>https://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/apraxia-speech</em></a></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Auditory Processing describes what happens when your brain recognizes and interprets the sounds around you.  The "disorder" part of APD is when something adversely affects the process or interpretation of information.  <br><br>Children with APD might not recognize subtle sounds in words.  The cause is unknown, but in children, it may be associated with conditions such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, autism, or developmental delay.</div>]]></description>
