July 20, 1810 is celebrated as the day Colombia won its independence. Antonio Nariño led an important revolt to gain this country's independence. Before independence, many revolts were put in place. However, all of these revolts were crushed or shut down. The Viceroyalty of New Granada was brought up and tore down many times between Colombia gaining its independence.

In 1810, the subordinated jurisdictions in New Granada threw out there Spanish officials. The uprising in Bogota on July 20, 1810 is known as Colombia's independence. However, governments did not start declaring independence until 1811. Creole leaders fought to centralize authority over the new governments. A series of civil wars ensued after the Creole leaders sought authority.

This piece is called the Brazil, gold ore is lava in the Itacolumi Mountains. It was created in 1820 by Minas Gerais.

In 1820, Brazil was ordered that they are only allowed to trade with Portugal. When Pedro came to Brazil in 1822, there was still no major call for independence. Shortly after, Pedro did declare independence for Brazil and named himself Emperor. Brazil then separated from Portugal. Pedro ruled based on the constitution. However, up north, some people were still loyal to the Portuguese.

Tiradentes led the first rebellion against Portugal in 1789. He failed and was later executed. On April 22, 1821, Dom Pedro was appointed by his father. Dom Pedro claimed independence in 1822. However, the United States officially recognized Brazil as an independent nation in 1824.

The 19th century brought a fresh strive for independence across Peru. They enjoyed an economic upswing after winning a war with Bolivia. They won this under president Ramon Castilla. Peru then sank into debt over guano. In debt, they fought against Spain and gained their independence.

Ramon Castilla dominated from 1845 to 1862. His greatest accomplishment was the exploration of guano deposits along the coast. He established a constitution that lasted into the 1900's. In 1869, with the help of the leader Castilla, Spain withdrew from Spain. Spain recognized them as an independent nation.
