There are remnants of amazing architecture, writing, and sculpture that inform us about this ancient place. The capital of Damat kingdom, Yeha, holds the oldest standing structure (Temple of Yeha) in Ethiopia. Near the temple, royal tombs and extremely ancient pottery has been discovered.

After the fall of Damat in 5th century B.C., small unknown kingdoms took its place. The Kingdom of Axum was soon formed and is known as one of the four greatest civilizations of the world.
