This is the crucial part of a music video to make the music video more interesting and all music videos include this.

The reason why music videos may include this is because its makes the music video more interesting to watch and interacts with the audience. The more techniques used within a video the more professional and exciting the video is to watch.

Miming and Lip sync is when you mimic or follow along to the lyrics of a song to make it seem as if you are singing it whilst synchronizing your lips to the sounds of the playback recording. This is the most popular and biggest thing used in music videos especially if its an emotional, non danceable song. This is to make it seem like the main focal character on screen is actually singing the song but in reality they're just moving their mouths with nothing coming out.

Cutting to beat is basically when the shots in music videos cut to the next shot in time with the beat. The reason why people tend to include this style of techniques is simply because the more the shot is changed often appeals more to the target audience as it engages the viewers of the video and emphasises the lyrics and beat. For example Shawn Mendes's song 'Treat you better" cuts to the beat especially at the beginning of the song whilst changing shot.

Surrealist

A surrealistic music video is a music video which features artificial and unreal elements in it. This could be artificial characters or set moving, for example being animated and moving across the screen in an unrealistic form. Jack and Jack are an unknown artist in the UK, based in the US, who use animated surrealistic shots to, that i find, to connect the video and make the video more interesting to watch. They include an old type of theme back to the 90's/80's feel with the dancing, the clothes, the type of editing they include in the video and the TV at the end. I think the music video is successful simply because it has an animated effect that connects with the video, because the song title is called 'Groove' this is how they both portray the music video.

An impressionist music video is where a music video focuses on small details of the picture and it instead focuses on the atmosphere and conveying the moods and emotions aroused by the subject. So a perfect example of this would be Shawns music video to Ruin and this is because its a simple music video where he is in a stadium and it just focuses on the stadium. The lighting helps with this because it doesn't distract your eyes from wondering off and focusing on something else. This is very effective because it doesn't have much within the video its very simple which makes it more effective. I think its very successful simply because its a very simple music video which for me makes it more interesting.

A narrative styled music video is a music video which tells a story. The video has a meaning to it and is almost like watching a five minute fiction film from the video portraying a type of story. We know this is a narrative because in the video its about a male and female meeting for the first time and falling in love, having a child after a few years of being together and growing old together. The technique is having two different scenes one with the story and the other with the artist singing at a piano. I think the music video is very successful simply because its a very emotional song which links in with the video. This often connects more to the audience and viewers. I feel that the audience will enjoy this because it connects so well, especially because Nathan plays the main character aswell as singing the song.

An interpretive music video is a music video which can be in interpreted in many different ways by it's audience that views the video. Pinks music video for family portrait is a perfect example of this because when we see the little girl we think that in the video its her child, when in reality its a representation of her as a little girl Each person could see the video in a different way and get a different understanding of what the video is about.

In-concert and Live Footage

Live footage and in-concert is basically a music video of the artist performing the song live on stage to have the music video. However it is a pre-recorded backing track so we don't actually have the live vocals of the artist. In order for a completed music video to fit the length of the song they must include multiple cameras from all different angles and because it looks live they have to get it all completed and can't re take so they can't mess up. This also includes them using all the instruments to show they are live and having the audience to show they're performing in front of people and not a music video thats scripted and directed. I think that this video is successful because it makes it feel like you're watching a live performance and they also show previews of how they are when it comes to performing. The audience may perceive the video as a misunderstanding in some ways because the music video doesn't really connect to the song so people may not understand what the song is actually about. However it makes the live performance look they are saying this is paradise going to one of their concerts.
