They did everything they could to make things safer, and they managed to do it. Muckrakers like upton st. clair helped people realize what they were eating, and it eventually made the food industry a lot safer. Unions formed in the eastern part of the country helped mine workers increase their wages, decrease daily hours, and better the working conditions. The same things happen today. It mostly happens within the government and its branches. If the police department wants more time with a case, they talk to the judge off the clock and he will allow them more time with a case before it is tried. This is just one of many corrupt things that happen in today's world, and unfortunately, we don't have any control over it.
