Why The civil war started

The civil war started April 12th 1861 and ended in 1815. The whole cause of the civil war starting is because of the conflict between the north and the south about who should have more power. There were lots of political and cultural differences between the two, south wanted state government authority and power and low taxes. As for the north they wanted the national government to have all the power and high taxes, because it would make them more money. But the south were in some cases poor so they wanted low taxes and this is all because they made money mostly off of farming while the north made money from building companies and factories so they made a lot more money so they had very different economies. The south also supported slavery and they used slaves to do all the work on their farms so they didn't have to and when Abraham Lincoln won presidency in 1860 voicing to keep slavery out and abolished, slave states in the south formed a nation as the Confederate states. North was very against slavery because as they stated it was inhumane and cruel and that we needed equality.

The north had an advantage of superior leadership from Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln carried the northeast and the northwest therefore having a bigger advantage against the southern states. Which resulted in them obviously having a larger population of 22 million people. North had more money and more military power because the north owned 97% of the countries fire arms and railroad locomotives. The north also had more farm land and food to grow crops and factories to work in to have supplies as for the south only invested in farming.

The south had some advantages to be going up against the north during the war, as in fighting for their territory and being on their land, so they had very strong motivation and a strong reason to fight and weren't backing down. The military was also strong because they've had past experiences from past wars and had skills.

The north also had some disadvantages during the battle as well. Often said about the north was that their officers were very weak and weren't aggressive enough and they failed to intimidate their enemies and fighting on unfamiliar land. It would also be a challenge for the north to bring southern states back into the union because of the controversy and the southern states remained strong and weren't giving up so it would be very difficult.

The south had plenty of advantages during the civil war but they also were very unfortunate because of the fact that the north was overall larger and had more money. They had little to no weapons because the north owned 97% of them and the south had no factories to make any weapons because they were invested in farming/agriculture. They had no railroads to move and transport troops and supplies also because the north owned most to all of that too. Small population, 9 million in the confederacy and 22 in the union.

Why the civil war lasted so long and ended in northern victory.

The civil war ended in the northern victory simply because of the stronger advantages against the south, more supplies, more money, more men etc.The south did have heart and motivation to fight but it just wasn't enough. The civil war ended up lasted a good four years from 1861 to 1865. This was all because of the different strengths and strategies both sides equal leadership and the fact that they came at each other with very different plans made it a longer war than expected. South wanted to come at the north with a unassertive defense, basically protecting the borders and drawing the north in, attacking them in certain areas. The north came at the south with a strategy called "The Anaconda Plan" in which blocked all southern parts and restrict them from supplies and income, defeating the southern plan because that is inn fact what they needed, and to get the union forces to take control over the Mississippi river, splitting the confederacy and weakening them.
