But then a lot  of tragic things happened all at once . They end up loosing lots and lots of money and land. They loos everything. They end up in a Mexican work camp. When her mother gets ill Esperanza has to step to the plate. She does lots of work. Unfortinantly there are a lot of people are coming to work camps and being treated better than them. But she does not join the strikes.
