From reel-to-reel strips to VCR tapes, there was a significant impact on the classroom in the 80's. Information is now able to be easily accessed in the school. Now, each classroom didn't have a TV; instead, the school would have a shared TV cart that a teacher would check out, and it would go from room to room.

Books as we know it are leaving the academic world due to the internet, but there was a time when books were the only way to learn. Looking back at the index to see what pages your research word is on and then having to flip through those pages to gather information was one of the only ways to study for students in the 40's.

Something that seemed to be a feat in the 40's now so far in the past. A Chalkboard on the wall allowed students and teachers to write out their work while being able to erase it. Chalk was used to write it, and cloth was used to erase it; this helped teachers stand up in front of the classroom and teach in the lesson.

Technology that seems like the everyday app to students now are things teachers and students once dreamed about. In the late 2010's, these online platforms allowed students to submit assignments, take tests, and receive announcements from behind screens. These apps also allowed a path for paper assignments to be eliminated, moving all learning to digital.

Not necessarily seen in classrooms, but many teachers will know what the Ditto machine is. Before a copier/printer was brought to the teaching world, teachers would have to crank the ink onto the page so that students could do their assignments. This technology was created in the 20s but fine-tuned and used until electronic printers were made said my Dad who started teaching in the 90's.

An overhead projector looks very different in classrooms today, but in the 2000's, they looked similar to the picture above. These would be rolled in on a cart, and a clear plastic page would be laid down for a dry-erase maker to be used on it. These allowed teachers to teach to students on a screen while not having to re-write the lesson every time.

From computer labs to each student being provided their own computer, the 2010's look a little bit different with the Chromebook carts. Students would walk into their classroom and be filled with joy when they saw that their teacher had reserved a cart to help aid the lesson. Chromebook carts were similar to the VCR tapes/TV carts because there weren't enough for every student; instead, there was just enough for a classroom. This seems weird in comparison to schools today, where students are given Chromebooks or tablets to take home and use for the duration of the school year.

A device that looks like the bottom half of a computer started to pop up in classrooms in the 2000's. These were devices that would teach students how to type, from hand placement to how to use the special keys. These devices would show a sentence, and students would have to replicate it down to the punctuation. This would allow students to learn how to use technology like a laptop/computer without having to have one.
