People with Down syndrome have different characteristics, they can have a facial appearance that includes a flattened appearance to their face, outside the corners of their eyes that point upward. It's called Upslanting palpebral fissures. These features are small ears, a short/smaller neck, and a tongue that tends to stick out.

People that have Down Syndrome have a higher chance of developing more medical problems.

Hearing loss

Down syndrome is caused by an error in the cell division process. This causes an embryo to have three copies of chromosome 21 instead of two. 

In one of the third cases of Down syndrome, resulting from translocation. There is a 1% chance that a child can get the hereditary component. 

Another factor in this is age the parent has a child.

Addition because down syndrome is caused by an additional chromosome.

A baby is born with 46 chromosomes. A baby that has Down syndrome has an extra copy of ONE of these is chromosome 21. 

The majority of the cases the extra chromosome is from the mother, which is through the egg. 

There is a small percentage which  is a less than 5% chance that the copy of chromosome 21 comes from the father. 

In the remaining cases occur after fertilization as the baby grows.

Down Syndrome occurs in 1 to 700 live birth, Down syndrome is most common to cause a genetic developmental delay. 

Mothers that are 25 have a 1 - 1000 at the age of 34 a 1 - 400 and at the age of 40 there is a 1 - 100 chance that your child will have down syndrome. 

However 80% of babies that are born with Down syndrome, are born with mothers that are under the age of 35
