Although he was awarded the nobel prize in 1907 but his work was neglected shortly after his death. This was mostly because of his unpopular political views. Critics still see his determination to be’ Master of the bricks and mortar of his trade,’ this im sure was meaning he wanted to be one of the best poets ever to live. He died on january 18th 1936 in london england. He was remembered for his celebration of british imperialism and his tales and poems about british soldiers in india. His stories were immensely popular during the 19th and 20th century but after World War 1  he lost a lot of that because of his views on imperialism. When he was a boy his life was torn apart by his mother who wanted him to have a british education so she sent him to london to attend school and live with a foster family. Possible that this is something that influenced his poems and stories.

This makes him seem like a caring civilian and wondering what is happening. Of course the army wouldn't tell the civilians they were going to hang there own soldier. He shows speech, inner thoughts and reaction all in just the first few lines. He also shows characterization when he described how white the sergeant was. He described him as white, meaning he was pale and in shock. “Es sleepin out an’ far-to-night” meaning he is sleeping alone and not right in the head. The files-on-parade was attempting to comfort the sergeant and talk to him. He was a good person

But the one who is talking to the sergeant is discontent because he doesn't want to see his fellow soldier be hung maybe he feels sorry for his comrade. The sergeant experiences some harder more natural reactions to watching the man being hung. He becomes pale and described how “it's bitter cold, its bitter cold” meaning its terrible what they are doing hangin danny deever. The innocent soldier says “what makes the rear rank breath so ‘ard?” this explains how the men of lower rank were sick to the stomach by the site of the hanging. This must have gave a sense of respect and fear for there front ranks. “ is danny fightin ‘ ard for his life” “what's that that whimper over ‘ead?” this shows how the sergeant wanted danny to fight for his life and the soldiers can here his whimpers.
