On a personal level, people can go to bed earlier than they usually do to save electricity during the night. In Japan, two thirds of electricity consumed by households is used during the night. It could be argued that such a change would not only reduce the amount of energy consumption but could also affect individual health positively. However, it might be difficult for people who have a lot of work or are too busy studying to sleep early.

Taking public transportation is another important solution to reducing energy consumption. Beijing is the most congested city in China. A report from Gaode Maps indicates that people who drive private cars will spend two extra hours than people who take public transportation in the morning rush. It could be argued that such a change would not only decrease energy consumption, but would also help people save precious time every working day. There might be a lot of benefits from this solution, which would help to reduce environmental pollution. However this will be a tough and slow process.

Moreover, using public transportation would also help to reduce energy consumption. According to the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), The United States' use of public transportation has reduced greenhouse gases and conserved energy by the equivalent of 4.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually. To be more specific, this amount of gasoline could fill up 320 million private vehicles almost 900,000 times per day. Individuals also can save an average of $6,251 every year if they use public transit. There is little doubt that the benefits of public transit would not only reduce energy consumption, but could also reduce harmful carbon emissions (CO2). There might be an overarching effect on decreasing the number of private vehicles driven in both developed and developing world which could help to reduce air pollution and mitigate climate change. While there are numerous benefits to this solution it might be challenging to public security, as an increase in people using public transit tends to see an increase in crime. The process of encouraging greater use of public transport systems is likely to be a feasible way for reducing energy consumption.

Promoting the development of renewable resources is another way to solve the high consumption of energy . It is well-known that hydropower is an important renewable resource because it harnesses the power of water to produce electricity without consuming energy. It could be argued that renewable energy sourses will be more popular in the future because of the scarcity of fossil fuels and severe pollution. On the other hand, it must also be recognized that some countries whose development rely on fossil fuels, like oil, may experience a negative influence with as the expansion of renewable energy sourses.

Natural clean energy should be utilized more in order to solve the problem of high energy consumption in the world. Energy from natural sources such as the sun, wind and water is abundant. It is a pity to just leave them there unused. These natural resources could help us save a lot of energy generating electricity instead of burning coal. This might be a great solution for energy consumption, but there are also some problems. The efficiency of getting energy from natural sources is low and the expensive price of building the facilities could make it unsuitable for some developing countries. Moreover, getting the energy from natural sources is not always reliable and may be limited by weather.

With the rapid progress of industrialisation and the resulting increase in energy consumption, the simplest way to solve this problem might be by encouraging citizens to ride bikes and take public transport. As we all know, oil is the resource that is consumed a lot. Private vehicles can not take full advantage of oil, which is a waste of money. It must also be recognized that this solution could also have a positive influence on the environment by reducing energy consumption. However, there is some debate about its convenience to our life.

In the long term, increasing public awareness of energy efficiency by creating a green lifestyle can help reduce energy consumption.

According to the Sector-by-Sector Breakdown of Final Energy Consumption (2009) research, residential energy consumption, at 37%, is the biggest part of total energy consumption. There is little doubt that changing lifestyles is one of the most significant ways to save energy. Teaching the importance of turning things off when you're done is the first step to control energy consumption. It must also be recognized that changing people’s behavior alone would not be sufficient, and that focusing on more energy efficiency technology needs to be considered. Using new energy innovative technologies like eco-friendly devices and smart appliances will help manage our energy consumption.

Using more public transportation would also be a good way to reduce energy consumption. As for Beijing, it has a world-class public transportation system. People can select several kinds of vehicles, such as bus, taxi and subway. It could be argued that using public transportation would not only be convenient for people but also reduce exhaust gas emissions. However, during rush hour, congestion may cause safety problems, so the government should pay attention to this issue.

Encouraging people to use public transport rather than private vehicles will save petrol. Gasoline is one of the most significant energy sources, so it is an effective solution to use public transport such as subways, buses and trains to reduce energy consumption. It could be argued that such a change would not only relieve the energy crisis but also reduce air pollution and traffic congestion. However, improving public transportation requires a lot of money and takes a long time, so it would put some pressure on the governments of big cities with massive populations.

Nowadays, many people choose between usingf fossil fuels and green energy sources to reduce energy consumption. It could be argued that some developed or low-polluting countries are using green energy to solve this problem. Green energy such as water and wind power can be re-used to decrease our reliance on fossil fuels. But on the other hand, green energy may only be an option in developed and richer countries because of the expensive manpower and the high cost of technology. Therefore it is difficult to address this worldwide problem in the short-term.

There is little doubt that using public transport in our daily lives would help to reduce energy consumption. If everybody goes to work or school by their private vehicles, it could produce a huge increase in demand for fuel, and lead to a shortage of energy. Using public transport, such as trains or buses could help to reduce our reliance on energy. As a result, governments should improve the public transportation system and encourage drivers to use public transit instead of using their own cars in order to decrease energy consumption, otherwise, this issue will remain as serious as before.

Using more efficient machines is another important solution to decrease energy consumption. Nowadays, people are more reliant on technology than ever before. For example, cars have already replaced carriages, and human labor has partly been replaced by machinery. When a variety of machines are used, they consume a huge amount of energy. Therefore, using high-efficiency facilities would help reduce energy consumption. There is little doubt that large-scale productions could save natural resources as bigger factories usually produce more goods without using as much energy. Therefore, popularizing high-efficiency apparatus could greatly reduce energy consumption.

Establishing advanced recycling systems is also one of the most effective solutions to reducing energy consumption. In China, about 45% of materials (?) were wasted in 2006. These materials can be recycled and become useful resources again. There is some debate that governments may need to support high investment if they build recycling facilities. However, it is also true that people in some developed countries like America and Australia, enjoy great profits from advanced recycling systems.

Taking advantage of renewable material is one practical way to reduce energy consumption which is mainly used in recycling.

Furthermore, it could be more economical and save energy by having factories use recycled material. It is reported that some developed countries have adopted a policy of limiting raw material in the production process by using renewable material, thereby reducing energy consumption in both production and recycling, and reducing a waste of energy in the disposal of rubbish. However, many developing countries can not satisfy the requirement of high technology for producing the renewable material, and as the cost of the material is also very high, these counties can not afford to import the renewable material.
