• Result : Other customers of PTSL have been affected to this problem. The severity of the problems faced by the students is worrisome. It is concluded that the situation will deteriorate if no  actions are taken to solve it.
 
 

These are the investigative procedures were used to identify the problems that happened at Tun Seri Lanang Library (PTSL) among the students of The National University of Malaysia especially the students of Faculty of Islamic Studies and Faculty of Science & Technology. 

A. The naturalistic observation was held at Tun Seri Lanang Library on 12^th October 2018 by making the survey over the environment of the PTSL. This observation was held to find the books that were not in their own shelves. It can be shown by the different label code on the books were put in wrong place.

B. The meeting with the eleven members of PTSL Student Volunteer Club was held at Discussion Room, Level 3 in PTSL. It was held on 12^th October 2018 in the evening. This club was built as the link of PTSL and the students of The National University of Malaysia. With this meeting, we were discuss about the six matter such as the service that provided in PTSL, the facilities that can be used by the customers of PTSL, the collection of books that can be borrowed, the service from the staff of PTSL, the environment and the safety in PTSL while being there.

C. Questionnaires were distributed to thirty-six randomly selected students to solicit the problems that faced by them. There were two type of questions that distributed to them such as open-ended questions and multi choice questions. This questionnaire form were answered on 14^th October 2018.

D. A librarian, Mr Jamain Bin Manab were interviewed on 16th October 2018 within The Open Day with Customers were held in PTSL. On that day, there were many activity were held and the customers service counter also open to everyone. By this event, we were getting many information about the problem that happened in PTSL.

The data obtained clearly indicates that 80% students of Faculty of Islamic Studies and Faculty of Science and Technology in The National University of Malaysia are facing the missing books problem in Tun Seri Lanang Library (PTSL) based on the meeting with KSM@PTSL Club and the survey among the students of Faculty of Islamic Studies and Faculty of Science & Technology. The limitation of books that provided in PTSL, the lack of awareness among the students of The National University of Malaysia, the lack of employees in PTSL and the lack of facilities might be the major reasons behind this problem. The problem was further worsen by the shortage of books that provided and the lack awareness of students. As a result, this problem will develop the effected to these reasons. The severity of the problem faced by other customers especially the students of The National University of Malaysia is worrisome. It is concluded that the situation will deteriorate if no actions are taken to solve it. 

Based on the problem of missing books at Tun Seri Lanang Library, the solution to overcome this problem is providing the specific booksheleves for the reserves books. 

 The purpose of providing specific shelf is to put the books that students reserved it without put that book at own place. The books that can be borrow by UKM’s students are seven books only and they cannot reserve other books because they reach the needed borrow quota. So, to borrow the eight or extra books, students must to return one of book, so that, they can borrow another book. But to find out the book that want to borrow after return another book might difficult, so with this shelf the students do not have hard time to find the book because they have the specific shelf to reserve it.

 Other than that, it also prevent the irresponsible students from hide the books at the different shelf because of the books that be hidden is limited and they did not want that book be found by other students, so they decide to hide the books.

 

FINDINGS SOLUTION 

Based on the solution, there are some problem that be faced to provide the bookshelves:

1-      FINANCIAL

·         The money that PTSL has is insufficient to bear the cost to buy a new bookshelves According to the interview with librarian PTSL, he said that the money was used for other purposes such as buying new books and articles for students and also lecturers for their use.

·         Nevertheless, to withdrawal that money must have the purposes for all customers that come to PTSL. It also should be accompanied by reasonable reasons to use the money.

 

2-      BUREAUCRACY

·         Each item has its own procedure. Then to make something new in PTSL must follow its procedure by making a proposal paper about the bookshelf. After once approved, it is necessary to create a paperwork to present to the authorities.

·         It must to follow the procedure as defined by them and this will take a long time to proceed.

CONCLUSION

            In conclusion, the best way to solve the missing books problem at Tun Seri Lanang Library is providing a specific bookshelves for book reservation. Although it has a solution to the problem, it is also a problem to realize this idea which is financial and bureaucratic problems and the hope of this solution can reduce the problem of missing books in PTSL.
