People conforms to norms to fit in society or groups they’re associated with.

Edwin Sutherlands, a criminologist, believes that people who deviates or conforms are influenced the most by group they’re associated with.

For example, A person migrating from a good society can become delinquent and breaks the law because it is accepted in the society and conforms to the group they are associated to.

Control Theory assumes that individuals have impulses to engage in deviant or criminal behavior, but that social controls and strong bonds help prevent them from acting on those impulses. Social control includes norms, rules, and institutions that shape individual behavior.

Control theory argues that the question is not “Why do

people deviate from society’s norms?” Rather, the question is

“Why don’t we deviate more than we do?”

if we want to do something, there are bound to be obstacles, for example, if our family has taught us that way so we need to follow it and once we violate it, it maybe will damage the family relationship.
