Thesis: Between 1930s and 1880s, Japan and India's cotton industry began to industrialize and replace handwoven jobs. Capitalists began to look elsewhere for recruits. Although Japan had numerous women working in the cotton industry, India did not have many women working for the cotton industry.
group: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 ~ deals with the livelihood and conditions of workers
group: 1, 5 ~ deals with the results of machine spun cotton and cloth

From the time period of the 1880s to the 1930s, the industrialization of the cotton industry of India and Japan has similarities, such as low wages and poor working environments and machinery. The cotton industries in Japan and India are different from one another, an example of such being that in Japan, many did not lose their jobs, as in India, many of them were unable to compete with the mechanized industry for cotton.
__________________________________

Groups 2, 3, 5 - factory jobs low wages and/or factory working conditions
Groups 4, 7 - machinery of factories
Group 1, 6 - cause/effect of industrialization in India

During the new wave of Industrialization, new inventions and systems changed the countries world wide. In both India and Japan, the people of the countries suffered from low wages and poor work as well as poor living conditions (Docs. 5,3,2,6). On the contrary, India adapted to the new innovations before Japan did and the reasons for low wages differed (Docs. 4,7,1,3).

From the 1810s to the 1930s, India and Japan underwent industrialization, resulting in various similarities, such as an available labor force from neighboring rural villages and the maltreatment of these workers. The differences would be that Japan recruited both men and women, but mostly women whereas India mainly employed men. Also, India used more machinery than Japan.
similarities: docs 2, 3 , 5
differences: docs 1, 4, 6, 7

During the Industrial Revolution, many industries arose such as the cotton industry. Japan and India had significant social and economic changes during this time such as the change from agriculture to industrial economy. Many workers during this time period had suffered from harsh working conditions and exposure to such diseases such as lung disease and tuberculosis. Adding on, many were given low wages as well.(Doc 3,5) The usage of machinery caused a chain of mass production
