Quick Tip #1: Inviting Guardians

I am always looking to develop positive relationships with not only my students but their Parent/Guardians also. By utilizing this feature in Google classroom along with collaborating with our Leadership Team & other teachers, I can work more closely with Parents/Guardians in regards to the success of their child/children.

Topic #2: Setting Notifications

The development of technology has allowed for constant feedback and information to flow regularly without gaps in communications. I can use the settings notifications to keep in constant contact with my students and families on assignments, even when they are not sitting in front of me in class.

Topic #3: Grading & returning assignments

I will admit that I do not always grade & return assignments as quickly as I would like. Using Google Classroom would not only shorten the length of time of providing grades and feedback, but it will streamline the process to the point that students and guardians will receive feedback quickly with relevance to the topic and assignment that we have been working on in class.

Manage Class Settings: I would use this to promote a forum for discussion about topics selected by me and those which are relevant to what we have been discussing in class by giving students access to post on the "stream" tab. I think this is a great way to get a large class discussion going.
Post Announcements: I would use this to post important announcements regarding class assignments or events taking place in the school. I would also use it as a reminder of important dates coming up (ex: a book report was assigned in November and the due date is in December--I would post an announcement to be sure students remember that the due date is approaching).
Grade & Return Assignments: I would use this feature to monitor my students' progress (or lack there of). This seems like a good way to catch students who are struggling and get them back on task quickly.

I would use Inviting Students (by code) to have students add themselves to my Google Classroom. Since I teach all of the students in all grade levels (K-6), it's not totally feasible for me to manually do that myself. Giving students that ownership is good.

Keeping students up-to-date by emailing is also very important so they know where they stand in relation to an assignment's status. This is especially helpful to those who may be forgetful and need specific reminders when they didn't hand something in.

Finally, keeping parents and guardians informed is key to helping students be successful. In our district, it seems that phone numbers come and go, but an email address may be a reliable constant. Easily keeping them informed about their child's progress is very important.

This includes lesson plans, activities, assignments, worksheet attachments, and links. This was created for students who are absent or in class that need a review of lesson. Students can go back to any date and are held accountable for their work.

Emailing and Inviting Parents- I think getting parents involved in their child's work is very important. With this, they are aware of assignments, what is getting turned in and what their grades are. It also allows parents to email teachers if any questions arise.

Google Forms and Importing Grades- I like using google forms as an exit ticket. When students are working in google classroom i like to have something for them to complete at the end. I don't post the form until the end so that it is truly completed once work is done. I then like the feature of importing grades so that i can see all of the answers on one grid.

I like that this allows them to see what we are doing on the day to day basis and also allows them to keep track of their students work.

I like the archive classrooms feature because every year we tend to teach different levels of classes (for instance one year I can be teaching environmental science but then not teach it again for 2 years.) By being able to archive classes I can save the content and assignments to reuse.

I love using the grading and returning feature because students get direct and immediate feedback. This feedback is also saved on their document so they can refer back to it. When grades and feedback are given on paper, they barely look at it and it often ends up in the trash. This feature allows them to read it, go back to it, and ask for understanding if needed.
