Workers need to be able to eat and live in the economy using basic goods and services.  If they are not paid enough they cannot participate and they will leave the economy.  This can cause a worker shortage.  This is happening in parts of Australia right now.
2. If too many people are not participating in the economy then the demand for goods and services falls and the whole economy can shrink or be too small to supply all the goods and services the people need for a basic life.  This leads to poverty and hunger.
